And right after reading the manual, I gain some information that helps me get a better score. Here are my personal tips:

-Enemy planes won't be able to shoot at you untill their propellors are visible. Once they get close enough, they will rise toward the top of the screen, at which point you will generally be shot down. Therefore you should try to take them out before they get too close.

-Even if an enemy gets too close, try diving and/or turning to one side, since they have to ascend a certain distance before they can actually shoot you down, and from what I've seen, you can't be shot down from an enemy who isn't on the screen.

-If you see weird black things appearing at random on your screen, you're under attack by AA guns. Quickly shoot the nearest one (kind of L shaped) before you go down.

-Ammunition dumps aren't worth the trouble of trying to shoot at them since they don't do anything to harm you, and they're only worth 100 points. AA guns should only be shot at if you're being shot at by one. Concentrate mostly on the enemy planes, and make the ground targets secondary targets.

Eep! just checked about an hour ago, so I had to play a game to defend my title.

Turns out as I was playing, my right direction was really flakey, so I replaced the contact inside, retaped it down.

first try tonight, 178,500

Whoops! Sorry guys... my GP2X showed up this morning, and I've been messing around with it for most of the day and completely forgot about posting a new game!

Anyways, I never heard from iguana, so I'm taking recommendations for the next game. Just post a reply here in the thread with whatever game you'd like to see played and I'll choose the first (appropriate) one.

In the past, I've gone by the rule "if you get it in before I get around to closing things, then you're in"... plus, your last score shows up as being posted at 2:14 AM (It's CST where I live), so technically your score didn't get in by 1:30 either :P

In any case, anything posted after this post right here is definitely out. Hope you all enjoyed Spitfire Attack and such!

look at his edited time, and he posted that he made a new score earlier today. But, its your call.

As for your time, check to see if daylight savings time starts or not, I'm CST also, and I made sure to post before 1:30 am.

Ah, you're right... the daylight savings time was wrong, that's weird.

Also, now that I look at things, nowhere in this thread, or in the Rules thread did I even mention anything other than a hard deadline... I guess I'll have to follow my own rules here and disallow the score... Sorry Rom Hunter.

So far, I think it's awesome. There's still a ton of stuff I haven't tried yet, but eventhing I've done with it so far has been a lot of fun. I look forward to getting my Linux machine back up and running so I can put some time into actually programming the thing :)

All of this aside, editing older scores should generally be a "don't".

I'm satisfied with having the world record.
