AWC and the retooled 1050

Anyone know who A.W.C. was?

At some point in the production of the 1050 it appears they started to take over.

Every part of the drive including the PCB, plastics, heat sinks and connectors look like they were re-tooled from scratch. All Tandon parts are gone. Even the program rom is AWC instead of Tandon.

The cost of re-tooling the plastics and connectors alone must have been a small fortune.

Did this happen because of the quality control problems that have been mentioned regarding Tandon?
