It seems like most people on here are mainly into the technical side of the A8. Is there anyone on here who is just or mainly in it for the games...

I'm mostly into it for the games, as nice as the upgrades are, there is so little software, so it doesn't interest me as much as I'd like it to.

So for me, the games are whats more important.

I think the most technical I get is typing in a game from an old magazine.

I think the upgrades are nice, but I'm not that interested in doing it myself and I'd much rather just keep my stuff original anyway. Also that's how I played it in the ol' days. :P

Well I dig the 5200.. which I consider the same as the 8-bits more or less as far as gaming goes. So I guess I would count? :)

umm... actually that was me just then - wasn't aware I had 2 accounts registered until I only half-entered my username there.

oddness. Any chance of nuking that account before I confuse myself any further with it? :)

I thought most people on here were into games, music, and demos!

Didn't really think there were any hardware folks (a handful, maybe four or five)... I get the same enjoyment out of making new hardware work for the 8-bit as those who like to play the newer games on it. But yeah, I do lean to the hardware side, but I do play my favorite games every now and then.

The 8-bit has sentimental value to me as it was my first computer... And from the hardware perspective, it represents a classical 6502 design of the era.

There are a few A8 games I like to play, but I get a bigger kick out of writing code. Maybe because I was never any good at it back in the day.

I am here for the games too. It just happens that the upgrades make playing the games more enjoyable. I am looking forward to playing all the games on my 800 with its multiple upgrades. Its just more fun to be able to play everything from within the machine itself. I do not have to connect drives or even the PC if I can get the internal IDE drive to work.

What I call fun is to play as many games as possible from within the 1 box. I want it portable. Thats why the hardware enhancements are so exciting to me.

I'm a games guy for my XL, awhile back I thought/noticed most of the computer stuff here was too techy & lost some interest, though I realize it's an Atari system that SHOULD be. I participate in the High Score Club(s) when I can. I used to type in BASIC programs too, but never really got too deep into the programming aspects of Atari computers or what makes one tick.

I really want to take part in the hi score club, I've got a camera and everything. But I haven't got any of the games on the first page, and I'm not sure whether people would mind me bumping up really old topics from the past pages.

Games and Nostalgia. I wanted an Atari 8bit when I was a kid but went the cheaper Vic-20 / C64 route.

I have a 400. I want an 810 Disk drive to complete my setup. If I found an 800 with 48K in the wild, I'd buy it. Not worth the shipping, however.

SIO2PC doesn't interest me much.

There was a guy here that had a box of 40 carts a while back. I wanted to buy them, but I went out of town and lost track of the message.

A lot of the technical people are individuals who played the games 25 years ago, and still marvel at the stable OS, and capable hardware.

I would venture a guess that many of the technical people are Down & Out (Downsized & Outsourced), and are toying with technology for the hackerish fun of it, because they can no longer work in their chosen profession here in 2006 America.

What better way to thumb your nose at Micro$oft?
