I am scouring the net trying to find a simple 128K 130XE compatible upgrade for the XEGS. Does anyone know of one that I can still get parts for?

You could make your own upgrade with a pair of 64Kx4 DRAMs and a EMMU. Or program a GAL to do the job of the EMMU..

B&C ComputerVisions sells the Innovative Concepts 128K upgrade kit for about $50. I installed it in my XEGS some years ago, and as I recall, it only involved adding two 4464 RAM chips, a CO25953 chip, and a couple of resistors to the XEGS. You might be able to get the individual parts cheaper, though; it isn't too hard to find 4464s (I've got several extras that I pulled off of an old video card), and I think Best Electronics sells the CO25953 for about $10.

Maybe better will be 1MB SIMM expansion by Pasiu/ssg: http://hardware.atari8.info/simm.php - You search in this link for: schemat. JEDEC, utilsów. Good Luck ;)

Is that a MyIDE board connected through the ROM socket?

Looks more like an IDE + memory expansion, with ANTIC relocated in the process.

I'd just like someone to document in English a step by step guide to add a 1 meg SIMM to the 800XL or 130XE.

If someone could make a board requiring a minimum of modifications to the existing hardware, it would be a top seller.

I'd like to put in a vote for that too. I'd love to see either an upgrade board, or a DETAILED list of step-by-step assembly instructions that describes exactly what needs to be connected to what and in what order; I'd even be willing to pay for the instructions if someone was to document the process in that kind of detail. All of the "documentation" I've seen for existing 1MB upgrades is either written in a language other than English (there are A8 fans who don't understand Polish who would love to get in on the fun too), or consists of quick hard-to-read schematics without any step-by-step instructions at all.

Hi

In near future, you may eventually get this 512kb SRAM expansion.
I got permission to give some more info about it.

The protoype you see on the above picture is actually working,
although the expansion is still in development.

some specs:
- S-RAM 512kB, no Refresh-Problems
- XEGS MMU taken from mainboard for getting signals
- ANTIC taken from mainboard for getting adress- and data signals
- PIA taken from mainboard for getting portbits to drive the expansion
- OS taken from mainboard, for extra OS's to be added
- IDE connector (currently working on 100% CF compatibility)
- The programmer of the QMEG OS is currently working on a new OS
supporting the IDE port, as its not based on MyIDE

and most important:

there are no mods made to the mainboard, other than socketing OS, MMU, adressdecoder, ANTIC and PIA.
Just put the extracted chips onto the expansion board ,the expansion fits into the sockets and can be removed without hassle !!!

I am not the developer of this expansion, but i know him. I've been showed the prototype and was very impressed.
It may even be possible to buffer the SRAM with a standard CR2032 lithium cell, to get a switch-off resistant RAM-disk...

I have already made my order...

Greets,
Beetle

What is the IDE interface based on? Is it like the KMK interface?

This sounds a lot like warerat. He hates to modify the mainboard and he used SRAM on the 800+ also.
