Several problems withyour analogy.

A ) Jack did not care about video games so how could he care about someone else being passionate?

B ) Jack made no one a better anything as a result. We did learn from him though. How not to run a company.

C ) Perfection? Give me a break....Just the list of bugs left in the Jaguar alone at release time shows me
there was nothing driving perfection....instead turning a quick buck. Look at how he dumped Atari on to
Hasbro.

From where I stand....you must be talking of another Jack Tramiel.

Oh, just admit you have a hardon for Jack already and have his posters all over your room. Its ok, come out of the Jaguar closet. ;)

If anyone knows better..it's you. :P

Warner was losing a lot of money before Jack Tramiel took over so you could say he was a saint for saving the company.

I don't think the "power without the price" philosophy was such a good idea though. The $800 Atari ST was certainly a lot cheaper than the $1300 Amiga 1000, but the compromises involved seriously affected the long term success of the ST. A 16mhz ST with more on-screen colours and a decent sound chip would have increased the ST's lifespan while still costing less than an Amiga.

Huh? He didn't save the company, Atari Inc. died. Jack's Atari Corporation was a new company.

Hi guys,

Jack Tramiel is "Mr. Burns" in real life. I like Jack Tramiel and reminds me of my old jewish college professors.

They were terribly stern, and always wanted 100% perfection (not 50 or even 99%), nothing else and nothing less. They use to bully me and the others, scream there lungs out and scare the bejesus out of you with in F! Hey I instantly felt Jack was in them during class.

Even through we couldn't stand them, they made you a better student. I eventually walk out on all the terms with A's and made me understand why many want perfectionism in there work. I understand why Jewish men did that and made millions and that students got A's.

To me, there hardball, straightforward, penny-pinching, tyrant bullying ways do work!! Look at Arnold Greenberg, he's another tough son of a gun too.

Now that were talking Jewish language, Pickle-harrying & Chop Liver anyone?

Anthony....

that might be true Atarian63, but by the time cbm went bye byes atari was only a distribution and software publishing concern, getting shot of it's hardware inventory and starting up a software business again (atari interactive)
Still, the last one standing, Atari Won :D

Um no...that unfortunately would be Soft and Limp.(MicroSoft)
Sadly and I do mean very sadly.. you are correct. :(

Bill Gates should be the most jailed man in the world for his crime....not the richest.
How he has not been victim of a million class action lawsuits is amazing.

No fight.....but a stern professor != Jack Tramiel.

The stern professor deserves better than that comparison.

He took a bankrupt company that existed in one market that already collapsed, and another market that, in the end, would have only two victors out of many. I don't think Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, the Google and Yahoo guys, and Richard Branson working together could have done much better in that situation. Do you see a lot of Commodore product today? A lot of Coleco? Sinclair Spectrum computers? Acorn computers? Mattel consoles? Panasonic consoles? Philips consoles? Sega handhelds?

Hi wgungfu,

Its one of my cartoony, mustard colored, tiger cat designs that I saved on my PC 3 years ago. Ralph "Tabby" McCool. The coolest cat in the Bronx. Thanks for looking. I love cats.
