Double Dragon was more of a side scrolling beat em up. Fighters are like (usually) mano-a-mano with health bars, hidden moves, and soforth

In something close to some kind of order:
    Soul Calibur (Arcade, Dreamcast)
King of Fighters '97 (Arcade, Saturn)
SNK vs. Capcom (Neo Geo Pocket Color)
    Fighters Megamix (Saturn)
    Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN)
    Capcom vs. SNK 2 (Dreamcast)
    SNK Gals Fighters (NCPC)
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (Saturn)
Perhaps on your way home, you will pass someone in the dark,
and you will never know it, for they will be from outer space.

I like tekken 2, but I don't enjoy it is much as Tekken 3 or Tag, because the comands are kind of slow.

As the tournament active fellow, I have my favs too ;p
Garou: Mark of the Wolves
Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Street Fighter Alpha 3
King of Fighters 98
Capcom vs SNK 2
Last Blade 2
I'm looking forward to SNK's Snk vs. Capcom on Neo Geo alot.

If anyone lives near Detroit, the best arcade in the state, I think, lies in Wizzards, on 8 mile. It's small, but they have alot of good fighters, decent controls, and pretty good players (VDO and AVX are damn good).

Never played it, but I heard it was pretty decent. Plus you got Iori in drag for the final boss.

The key reason that SNK Gals Fighters stands out (besides "Madame X") is that it is fast! Much faster than any other NGP or NGPC fighting game (and I have them all). It has a lot fewer characters than other NGP fighters, however.

If you love KOF R-2 try hunting down the original b&w King of Fighters R-1 and you need SNK vs. Capcom. It is still the best hand-held fighting game ever made, with dozens of characters from both publishers and a lot of mini games.
Well since they first tried contact with us by radio, we've developed the language computer.
A machine that breaks down any language to our own.

My friend has R-1, its sweet. Snk vs Capcom is the best HANDHELD fighter ever made, although I have to say, the combo engine is way too loose. Ken has an infinite thats merely f+roundhouse.

I hate fighting games. When I play them I feel like I have no control of my character, aswell as the fact that skill plays very little part in them.

If I had to take one to a dessert island then it would be Fatal Fury for the MD (Genesis). Failing that it would be Tekken 2 for the PSX.

In my eyes Soul Caliber is just an exercise in what the DC can do in the graphics department, there's little in the way of gameplay or game variation. Once the gloss has worn away it's simply crap.

You said...SKILL...plays very little part in fighting games? WHAT THE HELL GAMES ARE YOU PLAYING?
Just about every fighter requires some damn good execution, reaction speed, and the capability to play mindgames with your opponent to get the win. You have to know priorities of moves, their ranges, what's abusable and what sucks...it takes skill to do any good in fighters, unless all you play are people who suck ass at them.

Never tell a fighting game tournament man it takes no skill to win. I've seen it, and it takes alot.
