Just checked out both videos. I think both games have some nice graphics. But I have some (hopefully constructive) criticisms for both games:

Project Apocalypse: The player controlled ship is too big. It should be smaller. I typically do not like shmups with large ships. Also, the game seems to move alittle slow. Hopefully, the finished game would be alot faster! Otherwise, I love the snails, spiders, etc. Hopefully, they will do more than just dance on the screen :)

Seaplane: I really like the look of this, but it seems like the ship only moves in 4 directions (Up, down, left and right). I hope that the finish game will allow for diagonals as well. Again, it seems to move a tad slow, of course, there is no enemy on screen so maybe things will be hectic when there are enemies around. I hope it has Xevious like shooting (air and bombs).

Both games look very promising. I hope I did not come across as negative. I think for early videos, these 2 games have alot of potential. Best of luck to the devs!! I look forward to seeing more progress.

Seaplane is not a simple shooter, that's why it is multidirectionnal, it will be a 50% exploration + some ennemies in multidirection mode, then 50% unidirectionnal shooter (after the exploration mode), but will be a simplified shooter since I can't code 2 full games in one ^^

Thanks for your constructive criticisms ;) that will help us to enhance our games.

This is a not really good video, you can't see the real speed of two games and graphics, perhaps seeing this one will give a better idea :

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?acti...D7C22864F834CEE

(Thanks to MK for it.)

The game run at (50 or 60 fps) so running faster will be very difficult to do on a RGB screen ;)

For the 'nice dance' they do, that's only a little demo of Opale (Macro langage) for ennemies trajectory, Opale allow me to control each ennemy like a want with a program, and not a curve like others shoots. That's why the little 4 ennemis are running in differents directions. I can do conditional test, example if player go right, ennemies can go left for bullet avoiding that give me a full control of each and i can do things never seen in a Jag shoot.

I guess he was speaking of the general speed of the game, not the framerate.
For the moment, I find it is a bit too slow to be stressing but it is a matter of taste.

Yes but it's only a demo, and the ennemies waves have been only installed for having something to kill ;) All leveldesign and gameplay have not been done, be sure, we will give a little of stress to the players.

Thanks for the clarification GT Turbo & Orion, they both are looking good for such early demos. I can't wait to see more progress and the finished product!

Okay, I'm pretty new to the Jag scene, so I never understand what's going on. Thus, here's a stupid question: What format are these games? Are they all CDs? I don't have a Jag. CD yet, but if this much stuff is coming to it, I guess I'll need one.

A group name JagWare are working on a new device that will plug into your Jaguar and allow you to store programs and other files on a Compact Flash module.

Take a search for JagCF. You will find OODLES of posts.

The thought of playing Out of This World on the Jag is very exciting news indeed, along with several original Titles, it's gonna be a good end of the year and into the next for the Jag :)

Also.. for the Out of this World port, is their going to be any optimization for the Jag's hardware capabilities? or will it be a straight port?

If you mean optimizing the code to take advantage of the Jaguar's power (compared to, say, an STF), which means e.g. eliminating slowdowns, then the answer is yes.

If you mean things like enhanced graphics : we'd like to add this as well, but we need the agreement of Éric Chahi (the game's original author) first ; we've not discussed this with him yet.

I think OotW sounds like a very cool project. So I'm curious - are you getting the actual (and presumably commented) source from the author, or are you disassembling? Just wondering how much work it's going to be to get even an alpha version running on the Jag.

Hardware optimization yes, but graphically, what resolution are you planning to have it running in? I remember the SNES and Sega CD ports had low res graphics.

Yep, we're getting the source right from the author :)
(in a few weeks, as he's currently busy with other things).

According to Mr Chahi, a basic port to a new platform is pretty quick to do. We'll see ;)

Dunno about the SNES and SegaCD ports, but I believe the original computer version used 320x200 (which already looks decent on a TV ; most commercial Jaguar games use similar resolutions). If it's feasible technically, and if the author agrees, we'd like to support 640x400 and antialiasing as well for the polygon engine. ("prettying" up the bitmap elements would be cool also, but it requires more work.)

I think just the boost in Resolution would look great :) but the game itself is great no matter how you present it.

Same here. I think it's a great game, and has aged remarkably well over the years. I'd love to see how this turns out on the Jaguar.

Might some be space shooters by any chance?
Also, if the authors permit it, why not dump them for use with virtua jaguar?

P(roject) A(pocalypse) don't run under emulator, even on others Jaguars without using the Atari uploader, P.A. don't run ! We have tried at the Retro Gaming Connexion with Orion's Jaguar, without the new Atari uploader, the game can't be launched :? Yes i know it will be very hard to trust but that's the truth !!

HI. I have been looking at getting a Atari Jaguar and a 3DO for my collection, I already have a 7800 and lynx model 2, and was wondering which two should I get first. Also I was wondering if anybody new that one of the canceled games for the Atari Jaguar was the original Need for speed. That is one game I would love to see somebody finish or make for the Jaguar. A game to finally prove once and for all the Jaguar is 64-bit. It would look better then the Saturn and PS1 versions hopefully. I was wondering if any one else here would also think it would be awesome to have that game on the Jag.

Yeah I think everyone knows NFS was supposed to come out for the Jag, did you really need to revive this 3 year old topic to ask that totally unrelalted question?
