And if anyone has a link to the manual, please post it.

Tips

Cybergoth:

Quote

First get a Laser upgrade and then a Sattelite, then everything else just as you like.

Superb: I just died during the second boss battle and now don't have the slightest clue what my score was...

If you just sit on the title screen and wait for the demo to kick in, doesn't it show your last score?

Do what I did when I submitted my score to Nintendo Power in 19alongtimeago, when you get to the last boss, don't beat it, it'll throw you back a few levels IIRC with your score intact.

Doesn't count if you don't beat the boss, right? :ponder:

Using the strategy posted, and finding a 1-Up at an opportune time, I was able to do a little better this time.

Getting warm with this: 59.350

I can probably still beat Gradius these days, but it takes time to adjust to Life Force, since I never played it before. It seems it's driving the NES to the very edge, there's spots in the 2nd level where it is hard to find your own ship in the flickery mess

One thing I noticed, and it really took me a while to realize, is that unlike in Gradius here your sattellites survive your destruction - just pick 'em immediately up again!!

The sequel to Gradius (Nemesis).

Kinda. I think "Vulcan Venture" is officially supposed to be Gradius/Nemesis 2. The Life Force / Salamander games are more something like a spin-off series, comparable to the Parodius games.

Dang it! I scored 64,000+ earlier tonight but didn't realize that was my high score so I didn't take a picture or note exactly what my score was.

And yes, this game is hard. :|

My tip: if you die on the first level hit RESET. :P

I wish I had this on a cartridge. My PS2 style gamepad is clumsy with precise games like this. I had a finer touch 15 years ago on a NES pad... or maybe I just suck now. I used to love this game, but now it's making me angry. I'm slowly improving, but not much. Better stop before the gamepad lands inside my monitor.
