Yikes! You are right. I am virtual. Allow me one last word:

You have to apologize for fooling the AA forum, and if they not

ban your original nickname forever, you should post pictures how

you made "my find".

@ all: Thanks for your time! It was fun!

OK, then:

Excuse me for faking a newbie account. It was not my intention to offend anyone nor to make money on a faked rarity.

Everyone who offered to buy my "find" got a PM in which i revealed the secret and said i can't sell the item.

I just couldn't resist the temptation to let some hearts bumping faster.

Anyway, i am sure all here can stand a fat joke.

If not, flame me to death now....

OK, there's only one reason your not getting flammed by me, and that's because your making me one, Dammit!

I'm just joking. That's really cool. Of course because you were pulling our legs, you have to tell us exactly how you did it. Did you use pieces of other XL's to glue them together? How strong is it. Can you move it around with it falling apart. Come on, details, details.....

Nice job.

:)

Hey,

seems like you're not mad at me and take my apologize.

Thank you for that.

My 1250XLD (it is most likely that) is as rigid as a original.

i can put my monitor upon it and handle it without special care.

Just the paint isn't that hard and will get scratched more easily.

A layer of clear paint (still to find a suitable one) will help here.

I butched shells of a 1200XL computer, a 1050 drive, a 1027

printer and some 800XL pieces leftover from the two Atari 1001

i made. Additionally it took me 3 bottles of fluid cyanacrylate

glue, some 2 component epoxy resin and some pieces FRP.

I worked 3 weeks all of my spare time on it, about 50 hours, i think.

Next week i will get it to life, and put in a reworked 1200XL board.

It has a PAL conversion, s-video mod, 800XL MMU, 4x OS,

BASIC/Galaxian/XRAMtest/Compyshop Ramtest software, and the

1200XL stability mod (if needed, currently testing) and the 512k

SRAM disk, all put in by Mega-Hz. I will add SIO2PC and Stereo

upgrade at first. I don't know if i get both drives working, but

it looked good now :)

I added some pictures to this post. Enjoy them, and feel free to ask.

Thank you,

Beetle

How cool and how funny! One hell of a mod! I especially the like "Dr. Beetle" pic.!

Could you archive the pics for D/L? What did you use for the "dark" disk drive front plate? How did you cut the plastic -- keep scoring the plastic with a "box cutter" or "shop knife"? Did you consider a styrofoam mold and then making the shell out of fiberglass? Just a thought since I used to do a little auto body work. -Larry

I can make an archive with the original pics (2816x2112 pixel, about 1.2 MByte each)

The Dreve bezel is made out of the front plate of the 1027 printer. I had the needed wide right off the shelf!

I used a hand saw and a dremel cutting tool for the cuts.

Styrofoam mold? How works that? Please PM me!

Wouldn't fiberglass be way to heavy though?
