Yet another Floppy Disk/SD Card emulator

Thu May 3, 2012 8:40 AM

I stumbled across http://www.bigmessowires.com/page/8/ today after someone in my local classic computing mailing list pointed out that he's got a working prototype with custom made boards, instead of just wire-wrapped ones. I know it's been done already, but apparently it hadn't been done for classic Macs, and it's interesting to read about how he's got 800K disk support, but still wants to add 400K and 1.4M support. Not to mention all of the sneakernet that had to be done if you were still doing this without such an emulator!

If you start at the link above and work forwards, you can see the whole thing start to finish.

Atari Speed Reading

Wed May 2, 2012 7:00 AM

So, as part of my ongoing attempts to gather up a complete collection of educational software/hardware published by Atari themselves (Dorsett Education cassette series, Thorn/EMI language tapes, AtariLab, etc.) I just got my hands on the Atari Speed Reading package from 1981. I opened it up, noticed that it was co-developed by Learning Multi-Systems of Madison, WI, which is still in business!

I'm wondering if I should call them up and ask for tech support just to see what would happen. ;)

Edit: Oh, and by the way, if anyone can think of other titles I should be adding (Planetarium, Atari Music I and II are certainly on my list) for this niche in my collection, let me know.

Spotted another tape recorder model

Does anyone know anything about these? Looks like they were made by "Datamark" in Atari and C64 versions

Commodore:

Yes they're both on eBay Germany. If the person selling the Atari model accepted PayPal and shipped to the USA I'd be all over it. But the look of the Atari one makes me think - repackaged 1010?

Atari gathering near Chicago?

Sun Nov 20, 2011 10:46 PM

Since other people are discussion possible get-togethers for next year, I wondered if anyone on THIS side of the Atlantic would be interested in doing the same. I'd LOVE to throw an all-Atari show, get all of my 8-bits set up and working, get the Lynxes out and so on, and see what other people have hoarded held on to these many years. ;)

My only problem is that I'm in the far-far West suburbs (nearest the Kane County part of Aurora, IL), and I have no idea WHERE we could do this, as the best I've ever managed is reserving library rooms for scholarship interviews (i.e., I have no experience booking for a gathering such as the one I'm suggesting). Aurora itself *MIGHT* work if I can find out when the Comfort Inn downtown might be available - the pluses there are that it's right next to the Aurora Metra station and several PACE buses stop nearby, but it's not exactly close to the nearest highway, I-88. There may also be possibilities around Route 59, which DOES have I-88 access and another Metra stop.

So basically I'm posting this for two reasons:

#1 Is anybody interested in doing this in 2012?
#2 Can someone suggest a good location that would let us display and plug in our 20-30 year old computers? :)
