I care about function more than keeping somehting stock for the sake of keeping it stock. Cutting up something old doesn't bother me so long as it's common. When the pause kit came out for the 2600 I didn't think twice about drilling a hole in my 4 switch to make it a 5 switch, it makes it more functional. I even got out the old embossing label maker and made a period correct label for it. When CRTs get a little more rare I will probably get a longhorn AV kit for the same reason. If it were an early heavy 6 switch I would feel differently.
I think of the front loader like an old British sports car, it's a pain in the ass, but it's worth it when it runs. A new 72 pin will last at least a couple years if you keep your games spotless. I didn't bother clipping my lockout chip, and I'm still happy with the performance.
From the email "I wouldn't take anywhere close to a lowball price like that"
