Midnight Synergy

Hi all,

I got an 804 printer that I don't have any use for. It powers up, but I haven't tested it beyond. Looks in good shape.

Free to anyone for the cost of shipping. In Canada this will likely be around $20 to ship. Outside of Canada it's probably too expensive... but if you really really need one, let me know and I'll check shipping (my guess: $35 -$40 to ship to the US)

I'm not a GI Joe fan (never had the figures, comics, saw the first movie, etc), but I did like the C64 game quite a bit. A pity that it was not possible to complete it, though.

Anyway, I just saw the trailer for the 2nd movie, and noticed that there's almost a SID-like distortion/slide effect in the middle of the trailer (starting around the 1:45 mark). I doubt this was done intentionally (it's more likely that they wanted their soundtrack to evoke the Tron Legacy soundscape), but I thought it was funny that - in my brain - I made an immediate connection to the commie.



I know I don't really have a point here....

I just don't like the NES. I know I'm supposed to, but I don't. Help me.

I never had one in the day, so I have little nostalgia for it, but I've keep coming across them used and have picked up a number of games on it over the years. The cleaning/wiggling/cleaning/praying routine was really frustrating, so I got a new 72-pin connector put in. It improved things a little, but I still feel that I spend way more time cleaning cartridges than playing games.

Thing is, I've now come across a second cartridge (first one was Micro Machines, this one Excitebike) that I just can't get to run, no matter how much I clean the contacts. Dropped by a local store, and they couldn't get it to run either. I've never come across a single dead cartridge for older systems (Atari, Intellivision, Coleco) or newer systems (SNES, Genesis, N64), and I have a lot of those. Yet I have 2 apparent dead NES carts in a much smaller collection.

Are dead NES carts common? Or is there something else I should do other than cleaning the visible contacts (is there anything to clean if I open up the cartridge shell?).

I'd really like to give the NES a shot, but it's just sooo frustrating. Any suggestions?

A few notes:

2) I’m in no huge hurry to get rid of things, and I only have limited time these days. Please be patient if I don’t respond immediately to messages.

3) I’m in Canada, and shipping here is more expensive than those of you in the US might be used to. A single boxed game can easily be $10 or up to ship. It gets more reasonable (relatively) for multiple games, so for that reason (among others) I’d prefer to deal with fewer but larger lots. I’ll ship overseas, but obviously that can also be costly.
