Atari 1027, rest in peace...

Fri Feb 3, 2012 8:33 PM

Well, I was just talking to the guy at Best Electronics while ordering parts yesterday, I attempted to order an new print head for my 1027 printer, to finally get it up and running. I was going to use it as the final copy printer for a book I'm writing on my A8.
Best E. has quit selling their 1027 printer head stock becuase it's all apparently dry-rotted (or some similiar type of deterioration), still "new" in the package. Apparently they work for about five minutes, then fly about into a million pieces. So there is no way to keep 1027's up and running if it's original head gives out. Good bye 1027, you had your problems, but letter quality printouts wasn't one of them...

Does anyone out there still have a 1027 up and running?

Dual Pokey L/R stereo standard?

Mon Jan 30, 2012 6:48 PM

Is there a standard that has been set for which Pokey will be the right and left channels? Traditional, IIRC, the left was also the mono, but maybe I have that backwards.

Anyway, most of the time it really doesn't matter; who really cares which musical voice is coming from the left or right, as long as some are on both sides to create stereo.

But I noticed while playing Zybex stereo and Yoomp! that they also use stereo sound effects. With Zybex the rocketmen sounds come from the left side, the side of the screen they are on and enemy sounds come from the right, the side of the screen for them (if the L and R ouputs are set that way). With Yoomp!, the bouncing ball sound follows the ball around the screen from left to right and back, but if I have the speakers set up properly for Zybex, then Yoomp! is opposite. I remember a similiar situation with the Jaguar and the cartridge version of Hoverstrike having the stereo sound effects backwards (corrected on the later CD release). I hate having to swap cords to get the sound right for each specific game!

Who should I be upset at for getting the channels backwards? The Yoomp! guys or the guys who updated Zybex?

Is there a video test screen program for A8?

You know, the ones with the color bars and stuff to adjust the tint, saturation, brightness, etc.?

Wireless RF video on Atari?

Sat Jan 28, 2012 12:48 AM

Was there ever a short-range broadcast device made for electronics (like Atari or other computers/consoles/video machines) with RF output to a TV for wireless video?

Moon Patrol and Jungle Hunt file version sound issues

Fri Jan 27, 2012 7:07 PM

Are there any file versions of these games that don't have the sound issues; music screwed up on Moon Patrol and sound-turn-static on Jungle Hunt boulder scene?

As I recall, this isn't and 800 OS only problem since the cartridges used to work fine on my 130XE when I had them.
