Thanks for the link Seob! I think I'm feeling even stronger that something isn't matching up with this being a famicom.
In the teardown photos the back of the console shows a TV/GAME switch and a CH1/CH2 switch. Both are missing from this console and in it's place are the audio and video ports. Also the site's pictures of the controllers don't match up as controller II has a volume slide and a microphone where as this one has neither and instead includes turbo switches on controller II. Finally it just struck me that the label on the front of the console is in fact different as it is missing the logo on the far left. (looks like an "ff" on the teardown photos)

In Topic: Your favorite version of a game (other than the arcade version)?

For me it's Burgertime on Intellivision and Double Dragon on the NES. I've spent so much time on both of these ports, it's to the point that I don't get enjoyment out of playing the arcade versions of either.

The artist is currently battling some strict deadlines with his other projects so at the moment i'm still waiting for him to send me the actual files. Big thanks to everyone for helping me so far, and here is to hoping some of you will still be interested in helping once I get the files ;) . I've gotta say that it's times like these, where people go out of there way to help others, that make this community such an awesome thing to be apart of. You guys are awesome

latest update:
Finally got XNView to save the art as a PI1 extension for Degas. Current attempts to open the file in Degas are not working. I have the resolution at 267 x 200 pixels (which I assume should fit) so i'm not sure what the issue could be. I've just tried out Degas Elite to see what it would do and it's giving me an error message telling me the file isn't an image (?).

Photochrome seems to be a possible dead end at this point as the program is adding black vertical lines throughout the picture and also muddying up the colors. Also I still can't figure out how to get the "slideshow" to work within the program.

any help or suggestions at this point would be highly appreciated! :)
