Hi everyone,
I'm not a 2600 owner (I'm an Atari 8-bit /Jaguar/Lynx man, primarily) so forgive me for not knowing this, as I don't normally read this forum.
I've been thinking about the "Holy Grail" game(s) of various systems, that one game that is the hardest to find, and costs the most to obtain.
I went through AA's Rarity Guide, and found all the "10" games... and there are many.
Air Raid
Alien
Asterix
Atlantis II
Beany Bopper
BMX Airmaster
Crypts of Chaos
Demon Attack
Eli's Ladder
Gamma-Attack
Gauntlet
Karate
Mangia
No Escape!
Pepsi Invaders
Solar Storm
Video Life
In your experience, is one of these games (or another not on this list) considered "THE" Holy Grail of the 2600? Or are there so many that fall into this category so that it can't be narrowed down to 1-3 titles?
If you wouldn't mind weighing in on this topic, I would love a bit of back story on why the game is so rare (and/or a link so I can research it myself) and the average/highest cost this cartridge has sold for.
I would prefer this title to be released during the initial "life" of the system, not (necessarily) a homebrew or a prototype.
If this topic has been talked to death, please forgive me and point me to the thread. I tried to find one, but I didn't see anything in a cursory search.
Thanks a lot,
Smeg

Rare and "Rare" Jaguar Games From Atari Smeghead
Tue Dec 6, 2011 9:33 AM
As you may or may not know, I've hit hard times. So, unfortunately for me but fortunately for you, I am selling off all my Jaguar games that have any decent value. The items that didn't sell through AA and JSII are now on eBay.
The highlights are Gorf, Painter Special Edition Cart #14, Frog Feast #33, and Lost Treasures #41. As of now, most of the items have only seen the opening bid... perhaps you can snag something unique for a low cost. (Remember, it's going for a worthy cause... allowing me to pay my mortgage in January, or at least have a halfway decent Christmas.)
eBay Seller: RDP-Stuffologist
Auctions end Sunday 12/11.
Cheers,
Smeg

Atari Smeghead's "Rare" Jaguar Lot - Gorf, Madbodies, Painter...
Mon Nov 21, 2011 4:03 PM
Okay, well, I guess this is it, then. The start of the big sell off.
Everything listed here is complete (or as complete as they were when they were released), and in great condition. The cartridges all have those super-cool end labels, unless otherwise noted.
These prices are combinations of what I've seen on eBay, the JSII Price List, forum conversations about the going rate of items, and/or taking the price I originally paid and doubling it. Oh, and in a couple of cases, pulling a number out of my butt.
Feel free to comment.
(I put (CD) next to the CDs... I dunno why... you already know what these things are, I'm assuming.)
--------------------------------------------
Arena Football '95 (Cart only - pretty sure that's how it originally shipped) - $50 USD
Atomic (CD) - $60
Barkley Shut Up & Jam Demo (Cart only - pretty sure that's how it originally shipped) - $55
Beebris (comes with 2 CDs - the 2nd one is unlabeled, has all the emulator/Skunk files and source code, etc) - $60
Bomb Squad (JagMind) - (CD) - $50
Breakout 2000 (Box still has cellophane - I cut it on the top to get in the box - so it looks sealed but it isn't) - $120
Brett Hull (Jaguar) Hockey - JSII version (CD) - $60
Do the Same - Postcard Contest -1 of 20 winners (CD) - $100
Frog Feast #33 of 100 (CD) - $70
Gorf CD (One of under 200 sold!) - comes with "poster" insert (CD) - $400
Hyper Force (Box still has cellophane - I cut it on the top to get in the box - so it looks sealed but it isn't) - $60
Iron Soldier 1 Beta - very ltd (Cart only - mine was part of a second run, so no box/instructions) - $300
Iron Soldier 2 (CD w/ black label) - $100
Lost Treasures-#41 of 48 Limited E-Jagfest Edition (CD) - $100
Madbodies - $225
Missile Command 3D (Box still has cellophane - I cut it on the top to get in the box - so it looks sealed but it isn't) - $50
Ocean Depths (CD) - $80
Painter - Special Edition Cart #14 w/ Controller overlay (No end label) - $225
Superfly DX (SE) - 1 of 100 copies (comes with 2 CDs - 2nd CD is unlabelled, has source code, emu/Skunk files, etc) - $60
Total Carnage - $75
Towers II - (no end label) (Box still has cellophane - I cut it on the top to get in the box - so it looks sealed but it isn't) - $120
Zero 5 (Box still has cellophane - I cut it on the top to get in the box - so it looks sealed but it isn't) - $65
Shipping will be actual cost, rounded up to the next whole dollar. I will add delivery confirmation and/or insurace where applicable, and I ship worldwide.
FYI - If they don't sell by the weekend (11/27 or so), I'll probably eBay them.
I added one pic of everything. So as not to clog the site too badly, I won't do individual ones here, but if you want to see pictures of anything in particular, contact me and I'll email them to you.
If interested in any of these, PM me or email me, or heck, reply to this thread if you don't mind others seeing your offers/interest. Up to you.
Just so you know... I'm doing this only because I have to. Long term-unemployed man walkin'...
Make my sad day a great day for you!
Cheers,
Randy

Driving Crazy
Fri Sep 2, 2011 10:13 AM
Hello! I realized I never posted this here, and I think it fits, so here I am.
My debut novel, Driving Crazy, is the humorous story of two lifelong friends who drive across the United States to pick up a Crazy Climber arcade game they won on eBay, and the trouble they find themselves in when unforeseen circumstances occur. Though primarily a road trip buddy comedy, it also has some drama, exciting chase scenes, and is filled with video game goodness, featuring such classics as Galaga, Tempest, and of course, Crazy Climber. Even the Atari Jaguar has a cameo.
Here is the back-cover synopsis for Driving Crazy:
Jay Naylor thought winning the Crazy Climber auction would be the hard part. Man, was he ever wrong!
With his best friend Austin Ridenour by his side, Jay takes to the streets in this wild, hilarious adventure. During their journey from Lansing, Michigan to Weedpatch, California and beyond, they’ll run headlong into adversity, desperation and their fair share of lunatics. They’ll need every ounce of their luck and ingenuity if they hope to get this classic arcade game, and themselves, home in one piece.
Our heroes would rather spend their time seeing the sights, but they can’t. They’re too busy… Driving Crazy.

Driving Crazy is being sold through my website, http://www.randypearson.org/, for the low price of $12.99 plus $3.00 shipping in the US (I ship to all countries – pricing on the website), as well as a $3.99 eBook version from all the major eRetailers, including:
Apple iTunes (This might be the US version here, but it's also available on the UK and German sites)

There are various ways to read parts of this novel for free. All of the eBook stores have a deal where you can download the first part (generally 20%) for free, and through my website, you can read excerpts from the book. Also on my website, I have included a couple of deleted scenes from Driving Crazy, so you can get a feel for both the story and my writing style. In addition, you can listen to the infamous, "MegaShop Stakeout" scene, thanks to a reading I did for a local radio station.
My website also has several reviews, including:
"Driving Crazy ... is an unusual, entertaining debut novel by a highly talented writer."
-- Ray Walsh, Lansing State Journal
"Entertaining and witty, Driving Crazy is (an) enjoyable work of fiction."
-- Retro Gamer Magazine
"I picked it up last night and ... stayed up until 2:30 AM to finish it. Once you start it, you can’t put it down. At multiple times throughout the book I found myself laughing out loud."
-- Cebus Capucinis, AtariAge.com
I hope you’ll take a look and consider buying a copy. I’ve been told it’s a fun, enjoyable, entertaining read.
Thanks for your time!
