Name that game - Picture Quiz

Sun Feb 5, 2012 8:59 AM

I created this gaming montage for an end of season HSC certificate (makes a nice desktop background) :)

Try and name as many games as you can!
Attached File  HSCPlayersWanted.PNG   244.61K   124 downloads

I'll score them, I guarantee nobody will name them all, some are a bit obscure. We played them all last season so no regular HSC players can take part ;)

Still time to play in the 1st round of HSC Season 9 folks (links below)...

Atari themed PC desktop pic / HSC certificate wanted

Wed Jan 25, 2012 6:49 PM

I should have asked for this sooner but is there anyone creative out there who has or will create an atari themed picture suitable for end of season certificates for the high score club ?
  • was thinking it should make a nice PC desktop picture
  • max res. SVGA (1024 x768)
  • dark picture or leave room for desktop icons (top/left)
  • should have room at bottom so PC's task bar doesn't overlap it.
  • leave room for text or add it:
  • text something like "Congratulations" "Atari 8-bit High Score Club Season 8 / 2011" "10th place" "player's name" "nn points won"
  • also show " http:// www.atariage.com /forums/forum/60-8-bit-high-score-club/ "
  • file should be editable in paint (unless you want to put the text on!)
the final standings details are here (the games played are on post 5)

the previous season doctorclu kindly created some here, themed around the games we played.

if more than one person wants to do one then that's great too

Thanks :)

HSC9 Round 1: DropZone

Tue Jan 24, 2012 8:08 PM

Welcome *everyone* to the first game of Season 9!

If you're reading this and thinking of joining in please do, just play the game and post a score :)

Ok Dextral Dodgers' the first game is the awesome DROPZONE

This is the game that the A8 Defender never was; played a couple of times in the HSC but never with a proper NTSC/USA version being available, so now you guys can get some higher scores ;)

You're going to need a good joystick for this one and the keyboard needs to be just in front of it - press space for smart bombs and any other key for the invincibility cloak. Escape is pause.
NO AUTOFIRE! If you really struggle with the game you can play with autofire on, but you are capped to a maximum score of 25,000 pts.

Links to the game:
  • atarimania has instructions and a nice interview with the author
  • fandal XEX
  • atariage NTSC patched XEXs
  • atarionline.pl XEX & ATRs
  • I've put together an ATR Attached File  MYDOS453-DropZone.atr   130.02K   20 downloads (1050 density) with all the versions (PAL / NTSC / NTSC brighter colours)

Standard HSC scoring, 12pts for 1st place - other scores will depend on how many players we have. One bonus point for beating Fandal's HSC record 599,070

This game will close on Sunday 12th February @ 10am GMT (a bit longer to play than normal)

It's more fun if you post scores as you play, not just on the last day! I know we have at least three other strong title contenders this season, so please don't be put off if you struggle to make it into the top 10 - HSC points are going to be more valuable than ever before ;) We encourage all abilities of players and there will be rounds where things are handicapped or the team event where things get shaken up a bit.

Good Luck & Get Blasting!

p.s. one little tip (hopes certain players aren't reading this :ponder: ) the secret of the game is to keep a little guy with you until the end - if all the guys are killed then the planet turns hostile and you'll need to hide under your blanket... a real blanket not the cloak ;)

It's a small ATARI world - RAMBIT!

Tue Jan 24, 2012 5:37 AM

A small Atari tale...

After spending most of my adult life living in the relatively small village of Thurlby Lincolnshire I remembered seeing when I re-read the Page 6 mags last year that there was a company called RAMBIT in Thurlby. I thought I remembered the address but wasn't sure as it was The Green which was the bit in the village that isn't just a single street... anyway... I'd been keeping my eye out on a particular house as I did my regular local walks but never saw anyone there until Sunday, when I'd been dropped off at the local shop after watching a mates son play football... So armed with a pint of milk and a flask and several extra cups I looked at this lady who was standing outside the front of the property and (resisting the temptation to blurt out RAMBIT!) said I had an Atari (hoping she wouldn't call the police) and explained and she smiled and called her husband down from a ladder (replacing guttering) who was Mr.Davidson (I think) who was indeed the person behind RAMBIT - they were the turbo load hardware mods for the cassette drives...

Unfortunately he had recently got rid of his atari stuff (though he still has his notes / paperwork); I hadn't the heart to ask if it was thrown away. He was probably in his 60s now and had lived in the village for 40 years (when it was a little village before us city folk had runined it - he didn't say that!) I explained that I ran the high score club and there was still great support for our little machines... He wasn't a computer user now and didn't use the internet at all. Makes me wish I'd done this 10 years ago, but better late than never. He and his wife live in a house dating back to the 1800s (though he's extended/renovated it) and they are waiting for some decent weather to do a hot air balloon ride that has been cancelled several times! Up Up and Away :)

Was wondering if anyone here used their products or knew him?
