Interest check: AppleColor Composite monitor and Commodore 1802 monitor

Sun Jan 22, 2012 7:35 PM

Wondering if anyone might be interested in either of these. The 1802 has a bad power switch (won't stay on, have to hold the power button in to keep it on). I'll fix it if someone's interested in it. If not then I'm not going to bother with it.

I'm not looking for much, so please PM me if you're interested.

How much is an A1000 (system only)?

Thu Dec 8, 2011 6:32 AM

I managed to get an A1000 last month and accessories for cheap, but it has issues (boots up to a blinking red screen, supposedly a checksum error with the bootstrap ROMs). So now I'm trying to find a working A1000 system (just the system, no keyboard, mouse, etc.) to troubleshoot/diagnose the problem. So far, I'm not having much luck on finding one at a price I'm happy paying for. The one I got also came with two RAM expansions, so I really want to fix this one and not get another model.

What is a good price for an SNES kiosk?

Wed Dec 7, 2011 6:32 AM

I found one on Craigslist and waiting to here back to see if it's still available, but I might as well ask the question anyway. It appears to be in good shape minus the stand like most I've seen before. He says everything works except that the picture shows up then goes away. Is there a timer circuit in these things that could be resetting it? I know my N64 kiosk has one that will reset after a certain amount of time. He wants $150, which I think is pretty high with the picture going out.

Are C64 floppies unreliable?

Sat Oct 29, 2011 6:25 PM

When I got my first C64 a few years ago, I got about 20 floppies with it. All of about 2 disks wouldn't read or were corrupted. Top Gun and Quantum Link were the only ones I remember getting to work on that setup.

Recently, I got a 128 with a few drives (1541, 1541-II, and a 1571) with also about 20 floppies. Out of all those, even ones that looked to be in good shape, didn't work. Again only Quantum Link worked. (this was a different Quantum Link disk I also got with the 128)

I got some MS-DOS disks from the same guy and about half of those work fine, so are C64 formatted floppies more unreliable than the standard 5.25" floppies? Did the company that made the Quantum Link floppies know some mystical way of preserving data on their disks?
