Opened the mail box and saw this ad right on the front page of this coupon magazine that I usually toss, but not this time. Wow, Albert! Impressive!

Activision Anthology Remix

Mon Sep 12, 2011 8:40 PM

OK, I know I'm very late to the party on this, but I didn't know it existed until today when I saw it at Half Price Books and Records for $4.00. I was impressed with the line-up. There are a ton of 2600 games! It has a lot of Imagic games, too. Did Activision purchase Imagic? I was also surprised to see several homebrews on it like Oystron and Skeleton+ (I have that one on cartridge). Looking at the Amazon page, it includes music by A Flock of Seagulls, Alan Parsons Project, etc. That is almost my description of heaven! I didn't get it because I don't like playing games on my computer and, having Vista, it apparently doesn't work well (according to the reviews). I have a Harmony cartridge and a ton of '80s vinyl records to play in the background, so I really don't need it, but I was very impressed.

Anyway, I know it has been discussed years ago, but I didn't want to resurrect some old thread. If anyone is at Half Price Books and Records, check it out if you're interested. You can't really go too wrong at $4.00.

Hacking Games to Make Them More Playable

Sat Aug 13, 2011 7:36 PM

While participating in the 2600 HSC, I've played several games that would be very fun BUT for some very annoying features. One problem is my guy getting stuck to walls in games like Shark Attack, Tutankham, and the current game Entombed. Another problem is just games with bad controls. Spike's Peak graphics-wise and concept-wise looks like a really good game, but the controls are terrible. Everything has to be precise to the point where, for some players, it is almost unplayable. I know nothing about programming games to understand what causes these things, but have there been examples where programmers have hacked a game not to change the graphics or enhance it in anyway but simply to make a game easier (in the sense of better controls and smoother game play) to play.

Roaring 20's?

Fri Aug 5, 2011 3:19 PM

I saw an ad on the Crypts of Chaos page on AtariMania. It advertised new games for 20th Century Fox. At the top of the ad it lists M*A*S*H, Revenge of the Cherry Tomatoes, Flash Gordon, and Roaring 20's. I haven't been able to find anything on this title. I'm wondering what the game was about. I'm assuming it was never finished and the idea is lost forever, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask if anyone here knows anything about it.
