My feeling is this........that this port of the game for the 2600 wasn't really a programming blunder, but in fact made the way it was so it would be easier for younger kids to play, I found at age 10 that the 2600 version was much easier for me to play as opposed to the arcade version, plus on the 2600 version it was possible to flip the score all the way back to zero. So in my eyes it wasn't a bad version, just a more kid friendly one.
Ern when you attached the replacement shielding did you do it so that the placement is the same as it was originally? What I mean is putting the tabs back through and making sure that they were not making contact with any of the board's circuit pathways, because much like with some computer motherboards some require foam washers to prevent grounding out and some don't.
I discovered this by doing a motherboard upgrade on a friend's computer, I put the new board in and connected everything and got a high pitched whine but no display and zero power flow then took it to a computer tech and he put foam washers under the screws preventing the screws from grounding out the motherboard and voila! Problem solved so double check everything carefully and if need be loo up an image of the shielding placement/tab positioning etc. And also make sure the tabs are not laying flat either as this could create a problem as well
At walmart they have an adapter called a matching transformer you can hook your switch box up to that slips over the coaxial fitting of your tv and has 2 VHF screws on it, also it comes with a second kind of matching transformer with 2 spade lugs on it to connect your cable up to it so your tv can still be watched when you are done by simply reversing the switch from the game position to tv, if you get a gold plated one they work well and keep your Atari stock so you can play right away instead of messing around for hours with a composite modification that isnt exactly error proof or in some cases isnt even reversible so if you would rather keep the system stock just buy the GE matching transformer combo at walmart its a great deal and very affordable
I would like the template for the frogger box it says it is here but it doesnt show up and i would like too make replacement llabels for my frogger, qbert and warlords games as well unless someone could do that for me just so i can be sure it is done right
I use a combo of a can of compressed air to remove dust and lint particles and the a few shots of radio shack stereo tuner cleaner in the openings of the pots just by the 3 contact points of the potentiometers inside the paddles, do NOT use WD40 as buildup and residue could accumulate over time and ruin them completely. It about as bright as armor all on the casing which if it gets in the console it will be ruined as well so follow my guidelines and you cannot go wrong
