By modern-day, I mean like 2011-2012, not 4 years ago in 2009.

all there? it hasn't been updated since what, 2010 or so?

Well, I´m afraid that is all that has been announced right now. One new announcement will come very soon, but beside that the thread is still pretty much up-to-date.
It´s all hobby projects, so naturally there are not as many games as on a new system. :)

What about new developments in homebrew?

matashen just posted a link to the thread about all Lynx projects for you. That´s all there is atm.

Distant Lands and Ultra Vortex are not cancelled afaik, but in development hell; meaning that they are long overdue (by a decade now^^) and while they are still planned to be released eventually, no news have been seen in many years... save for the fact that they are not dead yet.

Catacomb Raider... I don´t know, last I heard was it was in an early stage and that the developer didn´t know if and when he would ever have the time to finish it.

As for "official looking" Lynx cards like Zaku... well, the thing is Super Fighter Team is a real company and Zaku is a commercial release with 300 copies being professionally manufactured in China. That´s why they can put it on a card like that.

But most other homebrews come in much smaller quantities, often hand-soldered by the maker. They are not commercial releases, but really hobby products. Getting the games manufactured professionally is expensive, and the fewer units produced, the more expensive it gets. And sales of 300 are huge for a Lynx game.
Songbird Productions as a commercial company could probably do it, but they don´t sell that many units either I believe.Their products look even less professional than some homebrews packaging-wise.

In any event, I think Electrocop could easily be done on the SNES, since it has no problem with scaling
I think the SNES can scale and rotate its background but can't do a thing with sprites. So you're in trouble as soon as you want more than one thing to scale distinctly. The Lynx has much more flexible video hardware than the SNES — the 16-color palette limitation is probably its most obvious weakness.

Other thoughts: I wish I could compose music.

The SNES can actually scale sprites, I have no idea how well it does or what limitations it has when doing it though

Look from about 5:20:

As for the Lynx biggest weakness, as mentioned above for me it is clearly the resolution. It´s just a huge problem when doing graphics having 40 lines less to use than GameBoy and GameGear. The 16 colors I can do well with though.

In Topic: Porting Games? Rick Dangerous or Duke Nukem?

Not only is it better than Duke Nukem but Power Factor does a pretty good job of being Duke Nukem already, or at least close enough.

I dunno. I think Rick Dangerous is not a great game either. The trial-and-error-concept is just so frustrating, I´d call it a fundamental design error... I believe it mostly achieved a cult status on homecomputers because there just weren´t nearly as many great platformers as on consoles.

I bet NOBODY would have the patience to sit through a Lynx version.

As for Duke Nukem, I don´t care much for the 2D versions either. If a 2d sideview run´n gun was to be ported to the Lynx, I´d not try to do something mediocre like Duke, but aim high and port a Contra game or Gunstar Heroes. Or Turrican. Those games are miles ahead of what Duke Nukem.

Speaking of Duke, I would very much like to see a 1st person shooter on the Lynx though. I am no huge fan of the genre, but the idea of having an fps on an antique handheld like the Lynx is intrigueing. Seeing how well the Lynx does smooth scaling, and that not only systems like the Mega Drive, but even the C64 and Spectrum have decent enough (homebrew) fps I think it should be possible.
