The Last Word version 3.3 RC1 with VBXE support

Sat Jan 14, 2012 6:24 AM

Haven't had time to upload this on the website yet or make an SDX ATR of it, so here it is:

Attached File  LW33RC1_DOS2.atr   130.02K   41 downloads

Check out the text files on the ATR for instructions on how to get the VBXE driver installed (basically, just rename VBXE.VDR to LW.VDR).

SDX users note - this works well with S_VBXE and CON.SYS, although LW uses its own driver and doesn't require S_VBXE.SYS to be installed. The disk formatter doesn't show up when called from LW's disk menu in VBXE mode, which appears to be the only issue.

Wanted: Philips CM8833 Mk II front flap

Wed Dec 14, 2011 6:10 AM

Looking for the elusive front flap for a CM8833-II. Obtained one of these monitors in very good condition, but would be nice to have the flap - maybe from a dead monitor going in the trash?

Czech/Slovak ľšťžý 80 column character set

Fri Oct 28, 2011 12:21 PM

Following a question from a forum member, I was wondering if there is a Czech/Slovak character set for the A8? Even better, something which can be made into an 80 column (3 bit) version, if it hasn't already. This is for a font set for The Last Word. MrFish and I are rather preoccupied with the GUI and other things at present (MrFish designed - remarkably - a Polish font for LW in 80 columns).

Note: 80 column fonts for The Last Word are packed two characters per 8 bytes (side-by-side), so are 512 bytes in size. They follow the normal internal code order.

Reset Protection of $BC20 - $BFFF - possible?

Fri Oct 14, 2011 9:04 AM

I would find it useful to have program code in the $BC20-$BFFF region (under BASIC, which is disabled) and protect it from being overwritten by the default display handler on Reset. Unfortunately the OS seems determined to open the editor at this address regardless of MEMTOP or RAMTOP settings, which are evidently recalculated on Reset based on whether there's a cartridge present. Is there any way to "fool" the OS into opening E: at a lower address, or am I on a hiding to nothing here?

1200XL PAL GTIA Adapter Board - Gauging Interest

Thu Oct 6, 2011 2:00 PM

This may be totally dead in the water, but here goes...

Would anyone be interested in a GTIA adapter board for the 1200XL which drives the PAL pin with the proper osciallator signal for PAL operation? This is the kind of thing that can be made up relatively easily on veroboard if you're adept with a soldering iron, but it's usually awkward to fit and wire up. The adapter would have the oscillator circuit on-board (including crystal), and would sit in the GTIA socket. You'd need a PAL Antic and GTIA. There'd be no soldering required.

Would anyone be interested in such a thing?
