How the hell do you beat the CPU on Drag Race (1977)?

Fri May 11, 2012 2:50 AM

Hey folks.
I'm trying to make a video on Drag Race (Kee Games, 1977) and I can't beat the damn computer. I can keep from blowing my engine but I can't get fast enough. I can barely beat 10 seconds. How do I beat the computer with regularity?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hey, we should make a help thread for the arcade for any other people to post their quandaries, and folks can post their hints to help them.

Games you were stoked about getting.. and they don't work

Sat Feb 25, 2012 10:15 PM

Hey folks.
Kind of a rant and post at once. I went to Game Trader and picked up a Resident Evil Director's Cut Dual Shock for PS1. Hadn't played it since the 90s. Got to enjoy the cheesy dialogue all over again. Anyway, I play through to the dining room (What is it? Look out.. it's a MONSTER! XD) and after I leave and get the lockpick from Barry (because I'm the master of lockpicking) I go back to the hallway where I first met the zombie. I go the other way and open the second to last door... and the game FREEZES. Damn it! Well, I reset the game. I get back there and again, the game freezes in exactly the same spot. This happens right after I leave the "Jill Sandwich" room, too. There are just certain spots the game will freeze at. Damn it, I was so looking forward to this. Now I have to return it. Crap!

What are your "won't work" stories?

Games where turbo/slow mo REALLY helped or made the game more interesting!

Fri Feb 17, 2012 2:26 PM

Hey gamers!
What games, to you, really were TONS easier to beat with the use of a turbo controller or slow-motion option? Any specific areas in the game where it was most useful? Or did the controller let you do some cool/wacky things? And what were the controllers?

I loved using turbo controllers for RYGAR: There was a trick where you could hold turbo A and B as you walk off a ledge/cliff. Rygar flicks his ball and chain at a rapid pace and sloooowly falls off the ledge.. only to reappear at the top! Dangerous when a lot of enemies are around though, as you can get "unfrozen" and fall to your death if they nail you.

Also: Using the NES Advantage's adjustable turbo dials when facing Achilles in TROJAN made me find just the right timing for my strikes to hit him just as he lifted his sword to strike me.

And I don't remember which wrestling game it was for the NES but if you threw your opponent out of the ring, you could hold turbo punch down and they would never get back in the ring. They would get counted out.

A to Z console games! Add pics if you can!

Mon Feb 6, 2012 12:28 AM

Hey folks!
One at a time, let's take turns going from A to Z with console game titles!
Console covers handhelds, as well. Genesis, NES, PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, PS1, Game Gear, Phillips CdI, Neo Geo, Panasonic 3DO, Jaguar, Lynx, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Odyssey, Microvision, Pong-type consoles etc., ANY system you plugged in at home or on the road! Imports count too, of course.

Pics of gameplay and/or the box/cd sleeve/jewel case/whatever would be cool too.

I'll start:

AFTERBURNER III, Sega CD 1992/93
Never played this game; heard it wasn't that great and didn't get much use out of the CD technology.

What funny names did/do you input for yourself in games?

Fri Dec 23, 2011 6:00 PM

Hey guys and gals!
What funny names did/do you 'type' in for yourself on arcade/cpu/console games? Please, in the interest of the moderators, put at least a single * or other such symbol in place of a flat-out obscenity ('cause I know there will be some in the names.. hey, I understand; I do it too! It's just funny!).

I used to put "P*ssyfart" as my name for Cloud in Final Fantasy VII. I thought that was pretty cool when I saw the baby birds in a nest with the materia and opted to leave the materia alone. Aeris looked at me, obviously touched, and cooed, "P*ssyfart.." Hilarious!
