Sounds good!

How frequent are the audio register updates, and are you providing vsync?

Feel free to post your test code... while bB is generally easy, highlighting where syntax problems are isn't one of its strengths.

I found a temporary work-around by putting this near the beginning of my code:
  const pfwidth=4

const scorefade=0

Try it without the scorefade... I have a feeling that pfwidth is the only important one here.

The pfwidth thing is a bB constant that's used to flag how many data bytes across the playfield is to different parts of bB... it was added to bB after this kernel hack was posted. I expect your error is just the result of a minor mismatch between the new bB includes and this older bB kernel.

If I had to take a guess it might be a change in DASM. When RevEng helped me with some recent issues he mentioned that some stuff had to be declared up top of your code because of changes to DASM.

There are some issues with minikernels using labels before DASM has figured out if they're zero page or rom locations, but that's not the issue this time... might be the burritos, though! :)

For graphics I usually write custom converters that take BMP input.

Ditto, though I use libpng. My custom programs get called in my Makefile, so any changes to my png images get updated automatically.

VbB has a very good Windows "img2code" program that I sometimes run through mono. It supports output in bB and asm formats.

For music I use Rosegarden to capture midi, and use custom converters to go from CSound export to data statements.

0th gen: Telstar
...I'm a fan of the General Instruments chipsets. They're well documented and easy to composite mod.

1st gen: 2600
...With its minimalist design everything is stripped away, except the fun.

2nd gen: Vectrex
...an iconic reminder of the arcades of my youth.

3rd gen: 7800
...another reminder of my times in the arcades, and Atari's last gasp.

4th gen: SNES
..the logical extension of the NES.

5th gen: Playstation
...Lots to like here. Crash Bandicoot, Ape Escape, Parappa the Rapper, Metal Gear Solid, ...

6th gen: Xbox
...But only if it's modded. Loading games from hard disk and watching movies on XBMC rock.

7th gen: Wii
...The first launch-day console I ever bought, solely because Nintendo brought something new to the table, rather than just being faster and prettier.

8th gen: Good chance I won't care to get anything here :roll:.

Yep, totally agreed. Like the last gen, if the companies want me to buy-in during the commercial life of the console they'll have to bring something new to the table. If they step up the DRM and incomplete games with DLC, I'm out.
