Good post and good review.

I am still a big fan of Phasor Patrol. Like you, Star Raiders is definetely a favorite and one of the very reasons I wanted and Atari 8bit in the first place.

Star Voyager IMHO is a bad game and surprised me that it was so bad because Imagic had a good rep with me at the time.

Just to clarify.I know how it hooks up,and have used them in game play.
What Im curious about is why Coleco, couldnt have come up with a less convoluted hook up.
If it was because of voltage issues why wasnt that considered before production?I know, only Coleco knows, but I still
think they could have had a better setup....just my 2 cents

I explained the reason in post #4. No 5V in the joystick port. The Roller uses optical sensors and wheels with light holes to detect movement. That needs power and the joystick port offers none. (the same reason the driving controller needs batteries). In addition to that, each joystick port can handle a single spinner, while the Roller uses 2, one for each axis, thus it needs both joystick ports.

Almost every single design that used an expanded version of the Atari joystick port included 5V to some of the unused pins. For some reason Coleco didn't. That greatly limits the kinds of controllers that can be created for the ColecoVision. Even rapid fire isn't possible....

Huh? I will have to check again, but I swore I used the blaster rapid fire adapter on Cosmo Fighter 2.
