Mac 128k

Wed Sep 7, 2011 9:37 AM

If this doesn't belong here, fine.. Just noticed it and thought I'd pass it along.

http://www.amibay.co...ead.php?t=19375

This guy is selling a Mac 128k, the original Mac...
He was asking $300 plus shipping (he said make him an offer), but now he's saying it has to leave his house by Friday or recycle.. Not sure how much of that is bluster to sell it, but...

He's in Michigan if that makes a difference shipping wise..

Just throwing this out there..
I'm not looking for a Mac 128k, but I'd hate to see it recycled...

end of line

p.s. If you've never been on Amibay, they have some rules (mostly for sellers) that can turn some people off. Mostly to avoid price driving and bidding wars, so you might want to read through their rules.. All in all tho, a decent bunch of guys. ;-)

Cleaning Arcade boards..

Wed Aug 10, 2011 2:55 PM

I am getting ready to (finally) try to get my Pole Position II cab working again.
I know the ARII board is blown (I was there when the magic smoke left it... ), but not sure what else yet..

I was reading an an AR II repair webpage and they mentioned cleaning the contacts.

And I got to thinking (always bad..):

What's the best way to clean the contacts on the edge connectors? (Eraser and alcohol? or ???)

Do I (how?) clean the plug that plugs onto the edge connectors?

What's the best way to clean the whole board, while I'm at it???
(Please don't say "dishwasher," I always cringe when people recommend that..)

Other than soldering (replacing CAPs, etc), what else might I do...

Now, I ending up ordering a new to me (2 actually) AR II board, so I figure I need to prep the machine so it's all ready for the replacement board...

Just wondering if there are any good cleaning/restoration of Arcade PCB best practices??

I know it worked "mostly" when I got it. Sometimes it wouldn't on power-up, but eventually it would.
Then, because of my own incomplete research, I killed the AR II, so I'm hoping that will be all, but we'll see.

Thanx,

p.s. Yes, I mentioned on here before about possibly turning it into a multi-MAME driving CAB, but I changed my mind..

Comet64 Cloud storage

Mon Aug 1, 2011 10:53 AM

Seriously, there is now a cloud drive for your C64...
I heard about it, but wasn't quite visualizing how kual this was, till I ran across this on youtube:

Now, that's pretty wicked!!
If my C64 was working (sad sad sad), I'd be all over that!!!

p.s. This has me thinking. I have a serial-ethernet device I use to get my Amiga on telnet BBSes.. These devices (which are showing up frequently on e-bait as business upgrade their hardware to ethernet enabled devices) should allow any device that has a serial port to do the same..
Imagine an IP version of ADTPro or apple game server for the Apple II???
Hmm...

Viva Amiga documentary on kickstarter!

Thu Jul 7, 2011 7:57 PM

I know there are a few Amiga fans here, so I thought I'd mention it..
http://www.kickstart...ocumentary-film

They are working on a documentary for the Amiga..
They already have quite a few good interviews done/lined up....

They are at 75% of their funding goal with about 13 (12? I should check.. ;-) ) days left....

I was watching one of the Mac documentaries on Netflix (and enjoying it, although I'm not Mac fanatic) and thinking that the Amiga could use one as well.. ;-)

If you're interested (or know someone who might be), consider it...

Or not.. Just thought about it and figured I'd post...

p.s. For those not familiar with kickstarter, you choose to donate. They don't charge you until (if) they reach their funding goal.
