In Topic: Does anyone here like the Sega CD and/or 32X?

Koopa64, on Wed Mar 17, 2010 12:25 PM, said:Well you remembered wrong. I've heard lots of praise towards Checkered Flag. Ask around, I'm sure you'll find some fans in the Jaguar forum. As for Metal Head, you obviously haven't played it. It's actually a pretty damn good mech game. It may be simple but it's quite fun. Some missions have you just blasting the enemy away, others have you searching for a particular item or enemy. If you find the game is too slow, there is a run button. If you have the US NTSC version, you can change the in-between-mission dialog scene pictures with anime style instead of life-like. Just check the options menu (if you've played Metal Head, you'll know what I'm talking about). I think above all, Metal Head is notable for being one of the few 32X games that uses textured polygons. For a simple Genesis add-on, it looks too cool.
Wow, thanks for being an ass about it. It's posts like these where I wish there was a negative rep button, heh.
I'm aware of the oddball praise for Checkered Flag. Regarding the handful of people that magically enjoyed it, I will respect their opinions. It doesn't mean, however, that it's a good game by any means.
Regarding Metal Head, I didn't play it for the same reasons I didn't play Motocross Championship on the 32X--Ugly graphics, poor framerate, and a hokey setup in general, even for the mid-'90s. At least, that's what I remember--it's been over a decade since I've played it and I'm not going to say my memory isn't foggy. Just for you (Actually, more-so for the Rev., because I tend to agree with his opinions), I will give it the benefit of the doubt and check it out again. -

I don't mind having ten or twenty games being incompatible so long as the system doesn't feel like a POS. Unfortunately the Retro DUO and the recent-model FC Twin units are crap: Iffy cart connectors, plastic-like controllers with virtually no diagonals, ugh. The pads on the Play n Trade FC Duals weren't bad, but unfortunately the two systems I had didn't want to work... Point is, over compatibility and extra features that aren't in current models, I'd prefer a dual system that is sturdy, reliable, and has proper controllers that work. -

On top of what's stated above, you will also need an Action Replay (w/memory card) to get the mod installer and the required patched game save to the XBOX (I personally used Splinter Cell for my mod). Other than that the mod itself is simple.. The hardest part afterwards for me was getting my FTP software to function properly in communicating with my system (to transfer programs over to it). Honestly, getting that sorted was more of a pain than burning discs (It wasn't much trial and error burning DC emulators with some roms), but once it was said and done, it was well-worth it.
I understand the OP's outlook on this though. The XBOX is by far the better emulation machine, but he doesn't want to buy another system. There's also the risk of his kid messing up the system. My modded XBOX isn't full-proof--If you turn it on a certain way (say, already have a standard game disc in), it seems to bypass the mod. There are other occasional times where it reverts back to the install/intitial pre-mod screen if I open the tray at a certain time.. From there you can flash the system, format the hard drive, etc. etc. With this inconsistency, I wouldn't put it in a kids hands, just like I wouldn't give a child access to my PC without locking the BIOS and other potentially devastating functions in the OS.

If the problem with Wizardry is the same disc you're talking about that's top-scratched.. you're probably SOL, sorry.
If it's different and it just looks screwed up on the bottom, pay the three or five dollars to have it professionally resurfaced. It will look like new when it's done unless you have some scratches that hit the data layer. -

I'm confused about the praise here for Metal Head. Last I remember, it was roughly on the same level as some of the worst 3D games on the Jaguar (e.g., Checkered Flag, Supercross "3D"). Am I missing something?
