Commodore C64/C128 Ram Expansion Unit

Mon Jan 16, 2012 9:18 PM

As many of you with Commodore computers know, a REU is a useful piece of hardware to have... Recently in my mail, 'I got a Box', and inside was and interesting new device I picked up...

It is a "DAC 1MB REU" by http://digitalaudioconcepts.com/ and i must say this thing is nice...

Cased (I havn't put the label on it yet ;')

And it fits in some common C= carts with just the screw pillar being removed and the 'latches' on the side holding the cart together...

I have had this a few days, and its much better then my 512k 1764, as it is MUCH smaller, and contains a full 1MB of ram... (V, 16mb next? :') And since it uses the same main IC (the REC) as a standard Commodore RAM Expansion Unit, it is full compatible with all the same apps (Wheels, GEOS, MOD's, etc) as stock.

Now on to why I am posting this, as some of you know I am primarily an 8bit Atari computer person, and I am looking for suggestions on testing this thing out. Now i have used the common CMD test utility, Wheels, and playing music on it, I am looking for something else, games? apps?

bug... dog wash priority...

there are just the dots, showing if there are new posts in that thread... not the nice little icons that show if you have posted in a specific thread in the past...

I liked that, it was the whole reason i paid my sub!

ok, well not really... but if it can come back, i would like it... alot!

VBXE, Pre-Order thread...

Wed Nov 23, 2011 12:41 AM

With all the sio2pc-usb mkII finished, I am opening the VBXE production run pre-order thread...

Details:
This will be a run of the VBXE V2, exactly as candle made the last run (well i am using his files, so they should be the same ;').

You will have a choice of NTSC or PAL (I need a PAL machine, anyone have one cheap ;'), and the latest standard firmware or the VGA firmware.

As long as there is atleast 10 orders, these WILL be made, but the more who order, the cheaper it will be and prices are in US Dollars...

pricing:
Inside US/outside US (price includes priority international shipping)
$150/$160 - for up to 30 total orders
$140/$150 - for up to 50 total orders
$135/$145 - for anything over 65 orders...

Pre-Ordering will last until December 9th. that is when the final pricing will be known, if by some stampede there is more then 30 pre-orders, then refunds will be given to the final price (honestly, I hope there is more, but with the interest expressed in the past, i dont expect more then 10-15 orders...)

Delivery estimate is currently the 2nd or 3rd week of January, I was hoping for sooner by ordering the PCB's already, but real life had other plans for me...

If you have ANY questions at all please ask...

Also, anyone in a country outside of the US, if you live near others, and can combine international shipping, this would lower the price immediately atleast on that part...

SIO2SD, replaced Atmega, and having issues...

Wed Nov 16, 2011 5:10 PM

I received an sio2sd from a member here, and it seemed the Atmega needed to be re-programmed.

I still had issues with it not responding to the A8, and acting flakey with regard to the buttons, so i put a new Atmega in it, programmed with 3.0rc5, and it was rock solid and worked fine

I sent it back, and they have it now, and its having issues. On their one 800XL it wont respond at all, and on other machines it will stop before it fully loads. (i.e. Yoomp!)

The machines the person has tested it on were:
800 (No response, nothing , still there SIO2SD Load software on the top of screen).
800XL
65XE
130XE
1200XL (This one is rather strange, when I hold Option and press start and it threw back to "Atari Logo" Trademark)

and none seem to work with it... and before the Atmega went bad, it worked fine.

yes the fuse bits were set correctly, and the Atmega was brand new, and the cable for progamming i have used to program other Atmega's for the SIO2SD with no problems...

anyone have any ideas?
