  1. You don't need steel molds for plastic injection molding these days, a number of companies now use aluminium molds. These don't last nearly as long as steel ones but really do bring the price down a lot. A lot of the advances in casting and molding are happening in the miniature wargaming field, so that could be a way to direct your search. One company you may want to talk to is Renedra: http://www.renedra.co.uk/index.php They produce a number of quite large scenery pieces in plastic, they are really highly regarded in the industry and perform contract work for a lot of other manufacturers. It may also be worth considering a resin-plastic hybrid. A few years back the strength wasn't really there but these days, with the recent advances, there are a few mixes which could well be strong enough. Going down this route avoids injection molding all together and opens up spincasting, meaning vastly cheaper moulds and the possibility of much shorter production runs. One US-based company you may want to look at is TrollForged and their TrollCast material: http://trollforged.com/store/trollcast.html As with Renedra I believe these guys will handle the production end for you, leaving you with just the design and costs. Hope that helps some.
  2. Fantastic news , thank you so much for organising this for the community.
  3. If someone's done something in their spare time it seems a bit rude to say they should be obligated to give it away. There can be any number of perfectly good reasons for why someone chooses to shelve a product and not release it - if something is not production quality code it could be incredibly damaging to that person to release it.
  4. I'm not a member of Jagware, so this is from a completely outside perspective, but I never imagined the guys behind Jagtopus would expect other groups to re-tool their pre-existing production lines. What Songbird and Telegames have works great for them but to me the Jagtopus project, at least from the outside, appears to open up the playing field for more people to develop and distribute their stuff, which can only be a great thing. As a gamer I think we have seen two fantastic looking games come out so far in just one year thanks to Jagtopus. And as someone hoping to start developing for the Jaguar themselves, the Jagtopus gives me hope that one day I'll be able to make and sell cartridge based games too.
  5. Thanks for the pictures for people who couldn't attend. Rebooteroids looks amazing!
  6. It's been around for years now, my copy was labelled like this and that must have been over 3 years ago.
  7. If you are UK based those are both the going rates I'm afraid. The chance of finding either of those outside of eBay are nill.
  8. I heard there were certain large retail arms in the UK that were told they would not be provided PS2 stock to sell while they still retailed Dreamcast units, I can't be 100% on it, but it came from believable people. Sony also sent letters out to registered PlayStation owners urging them to ignore the DC and wait for the "Emotion Engine" and other vague PR rubbish. One thing I would say is that Atari's spending wasn't nearly as bad as Sega's, they weren't throwing around the likes of $70 million on individual games. Even top hits like Doom were secured for under a quarter of a million, so they wouldn't have had to be the big winner to stay afloat. On one of the videos from the Monster Manor creators on YouTube they talk about the technical implications of porting from the 3DO to PS1 and interestingly the PS1 was supposedly actually based on pretty stock components shoved together and pushed out the door with a massive advertising budget.
  9. If there's a list for people who are very interested, but not sure when they will actually have enough cash handy, can I go on that one please?
  10. Hopefully this isn't dragging the thread off topic but can anyone recommend a good MOD tracker for Windows that outputs a Jag compatible MOD file?
  11. Pretty much every coder coming out of University courses these days has done assembler work, usually for the ARM instruction set. You can find books on 68k assembler on Amazon for as little as 1 penny if you want a more comprehensive overview of that chip. The Jaguar reference PDF is also freely available.
  12. Orion: That's a sight nearly as pretty as the CG artwork, can't wait! How long does it take to flash each of the carts over BJL?
  13. Yeah almost all the music I listen to are digital only releases these days, just because they don't have the funds to make a little booklet and some cover art doesn't make them any less of a musician.
  14. It might be too much hassle to organise, but any chance of a one off, limited run without boxes for those who can't afford the higher priced box offering?
