Do you ever think the likes of a beige box PC from the 1990's and early 2000's will ever be classic?

No.

They were too generic, made of commodity parts. Even the "brand name" PCs of that era -- Dell, Gateway, etc, had no real memorable standouts.

As a mediocre gamer, I think this is a good idea if it's implemented well. It's really frustrating to just get stuck in a game I've bought and not get to experience it all.

For example in one of the Simpsons driving games (like Crazy Taxi) if you screw up a level many times, you get to skip it. As I said I am not a great gamer in the first place, but sometimes there is just a POS level. In this game, once past that level, I beat the rest. Without that feature I'd have just quit playing and, more importantly to the game disitrbutors, I would have not bought any more of those games.

They do work but they are just like the first rev of GBA SP. They are a front light that shines light through the front of the screen they are not a back light.

this leads to a few issues, light glare, washed out colors. i mean its great to get the light on a screen if you do not have a light source $25 is a bit steep for that (it use to be around $10-$15). i have a first gen SP and its actually around the same when it comes to brightness and such.

I do like the original GBA design more then the SP. i ow both the first model of SP and the original GBA.

I know this is a sort-of old thread, but I'll pile on.

The first-gen SP looks much better than the GBA with a Halo light, at least in my experience. The Halo light gave an incredibly washed-out screen to the point that I could barely discern the different colors on the screen. I adjusted whatever I could adjust and it still just sucked. One of those clip-on or worm lights works at least as well, except for the glare.

Since it's mid-2011, you can get a second-gen SP (truly backlit, AGS-101, looks wonderful) for around $25. Once you see a backlit SP you'll think the first-gen SP is horrible and the original GBA is poop.

In Topic: How do PSX/PS2 games look on a backwards-compatible PS3

I have a 60GB hooked up to an 1080p display using HDMI. PS2 games look great. There are a couple of options you can pick for scaling. On the "full screen" scaling mode, the image is a somewhat softened by the upscaling, and there's still a small border around the display. However, it's nicer than my PS2 looks connected via component cables to the same display.

Amiga 2000: This one I know nothing about. I saw a clip of some animation rendered by the Amiga 1000 and was blown away, practically PS1 quality in 1985! I'm wondering how the 2000 is different.

More like Genesis or SNES-era quality, with some advantages and disadvantages compared to those systems. Still impressive for the 1980s and a fun machine to mess around with. Lots of good games and easy to use music and art applications.
