  1. Overhauled Search Coming Soon!

    Posted 11 Mar 2010

Invision announced today that they have completely overhauled the forum search system in the next version of the software they are busy working on. They basically completely rewrote the search system from scratch, addressing many of the present shortcomings and adding many new features. Pretty much everything I've complained about in their forums has been addressed, as well as several surprises I wasn't expecting. You can read about it here:

    http://community.inv...earch-overhaul/

This is a big deal to me, since there are nearly 2,000,000 posts here and the better the search system the easier it is to find what you're looking for. This new system will be extended to the other modules of the forum (Blogs, Downloads, etc.), so, for instance, you'll be able to search individual blogs as well as individual blog entries, which you cannot do now.

Just thought I'd share, since I was pretty damn happy to see this. :)

  2. Should I create a "Modern PC/Mac Gaming" Forum?

    Posted 8 Mar 2010

The title pretty much says it all. Is there any interest in splitting up this forum into two distinct forums, one covering PCs/Macs and one covering consoles? I'd create a new "Modern PC/Mac Gaming" forum and then rename this one to "Modern Console Gaming". I'd then move a ton of PC/Mac-related gaming topics into the new "Modern PC/Mac Gaming" forum.

  3. Steam and Valve games announced for Mac!

    Posted 8 Mar 2010

I know there are a fair number of Mac users here on AtariAge, so I'm kind of surprised this hasn't gotten posted yet. Valve officially announced today that Steam would be arriving on the Macintosh platform next month, as well as their various Source games (Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series). Portal 2, announced three days ago, will be released simultaneously for PC and Mac. They've also stated that you won't have to pay any extra to play both the PC and Mac versions of the same game, which is fantastic as I already have several of their Source-based games purchased through Steam.

    Announcements here:

    http://www.valvesoftware.com/news.php

This is big news for the Macintosh, which historically has been a pretty dismal platform for playing games on. I hope this opens the floodgates for developers to port their titles to OS X, which has been a steadily growing platform for some time now. It'll be great being able to run Steam natively instead of through a Windows Virtual Machine.

Also, if you hadn't yet seen these teaser images, they are pretty damn cool (depending on how much of a Machead you are):
