Netboot the Apple IIgs
Sat Sep 24, 2011 8:03 PM
So I've often read that an Apple IIgs was capable of booting over an AppleTalk network, but never got around to trying it. Recently I acquired all of the tools to make it happen so I gave it a go today.
I installed AppleShare 3.0 on a Quadra 650 running Mac OS 8.1. I then followed the instructions in the AppleShare manual about installing the GS/OS files needed on the server.
Once completed, I set the IIgs to boot via the LocalTalk port and it worked like a champ.
Here is a quick test video I made.

Here you'll see some of the stuff I currently have set up.
1040STf with SM124
1040STe with SC1224 and UltraSatan
Apple IIgs
Apple Mac Pro Quad 2.8 Xeon with 17" Studio Display
Apple PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8 with 15" Studio Display
Atari 800XL with dual 1050's and a Commodore 1702 Monitor
The stock rotates a lot so I'll try to update the pictures from time to time.
Oh, and sorry about the lighting. My basement is dark and my iPhone 3Gs has no flash.
