1050 RESET mod

Sat May 5, 2012 1:29 PM

After many years I finally modded my main 1050 to let it run on an "AT" power supply. I mounted 2 PC-style 4-pin molex connectors in the back of the case so I can daisy-chain the power to other 1050's (not modded yet). When at it I also redid all the ugly wiring (Speedy switches, write protect, etc) and removed the external speed potmeter since I don't use it anymore these days.

Seems to work as it should on both AC and DC but when DC powered the on/off switch doesn't work anymore (which is as expected). The only time I need to power it off is when programming the Speedy to disable itself. After that, the only way to re-enable it (reset) is to power off/on.

Once I had a doc to add a RESET button to the Atari 1050 but can't find it anymore. The button was meant for stock 1050's and I don't know if it also works on Speedy upgraded 1050's.

Anyone have this doc? Or maybe other ways to do a RESET with a button?

Simple System Check

Sun Apr 22, 2012 12:53 PM

Don't get too exited...

This is just a very basic BASIC thing that does some simple system checks like revision info, GTIA check, audio output and things like that. For a much better tool you should get SI.

Main purpose for me is to check what's in an XE, like what BASIC/O.S. revision it has and if it has the good or the bad GTIA and if the basic functions of pokey are working. It had to work on a system with no keyboard attached so the few available options can be selected with a joystick in either port #0 or #1. A connected mouse will probably cause issues.

Just make it autorun from DOS when booted.

POKEY keyboard scanning

Confirmation wanted :-)

I want to emulate some shift+key combo's with logic gates, like 74LS/74HCT and was under the impression I need to delay the actual key press a little bit after shift was pressed to get it to work.

After reading the Altirra hardware manual ( chapter 5.8 ) I'm not so sure anymore if I have to delay anything at all.

Does setting the "shift" bit together with another key's bit, simultaneously, give me the right result?

I never really had any problems with XL's. If there were any they were always related to (memory-)upgrades. But what about that thing called "delay line" ? (U13 in 600XL)

Just came across a 3rd XL (stock) with a broken one. 2 Were 800XL's, and now this 600XL. Is there a way to not use this component by using another way to create the delay? I don't even know what's in it (a coil?).

What were they thinking when...

Sometimes I wonder what was on people's mind when coming accross things, like I did this evening when a pulled a random 800XL from the stack and opened it.

I'm sure there must be lot's of other (and worse) examples out there so the question is: what kind of surprises were you facing when opening some Atari stuff?

I want your pictures. (just Atari stuff please, no other systems)
