Stan Quest 2009 Begins
Posted 17 Sep 2009
Ok. I have decided on a target for Stan Quest 2009:
Espial by Tigervision
The game is a rarity 6, yet I have NEVER seen it in the wild or at a convention. I have absolutely no idea what the game fetches or anything about it beyond the fact that I don't have it.
The Tigervision section of my collection is sadly sparse, so adding this baby to the collection will be a real boost in what is an otherwise spacious area of my stacks.
So, the quest begins today. There are no Espials on ebay or CTCW, so those avenues are dry at the moment.
My price ceiling for Espial is $20.
I can do this. Wish me luck, or sell me yours.

Lots to take care of this time around kiddies.
First order of business: Beatles Rock Band has invaded my home. I am a total Rock Band/Guitar Hero virgin. I have never so much as attempted to play these games. Honestly, I have had no interest, the games seem very faddish to me and rather limited in their overall potential experience. My ignorance also suggested to me that the game was just button mashing on a garish plastic guitar controller. Yet, Aimee is a giant Beatles fan and the announcement of this game was met with endless "iwantitiwantitiwantitiwantitiwantit's" so pretty soon we were one Beatles Rock Band (Wii) richer and $250 poorer. The implication was that I too would play and not merely spectate, a role I was more than content to occupy.
So I gave it a try. One look at how the guitar controller worked and I opted for drums. The guitar looked like a complicated mess, the drums looked like DDR with sticks. DDR with sticks I could do, maybe. The overall game interface is pretty straightforward to a DDR player like me. Color icons, corresponding buttons, learn the rhythm, go. And I have to say, I like the drums, I still play on medium because I am a sissy, but the drums are pretty cool. Often the button sequence they want me to hit is too fast for me, or too complex, yes even on medium, but I like the game play anyway.
To be a good sport, I also sing from time to time so that Aimee can play the drums. The singing is kind of silly and I sing like a drunk camel, but we get a good laugh (we have joked that we will post videos on youtube).
Today I gave that scary guitar a go. I played the tutorial and did ok until the advanced moves part, where I stunk up the joint. I also played through all of the songs on easy level and other than few really tough songs, I did ok. I think I could maybe learn to play the guitar controller with some more practice, but it is pretty tough for me to do. I will keep trying and we'll see how it goes.
When all is said and done, Beatles Rock Band is a lot of fun I never expected to have and I am pretty pleased with the investment. Now if only the Wii will get the downloadable albums online so we can play those songs too.
Second order of business: Stan Quest 2009.
I'm working on grinding out the remainder of my VCS collection. I need to snag a bucket of collection filler and a bevy of the rarer games in the set. Therefore in the interest of knocking out some of those hard to find games and doing it without paying an arm and a leg (which some of those games will set you back), I am embarking on Stan Quest. My mission: one game, one year, a set price. I'm going to look over my needed games list, pick one. Then I am going to set a base price from which I wish to pay no higher a fee to obtain said game. After that the search begins, ChasetheChuckwagon.com, ebay, flea markets, second hands, no stone unturned. I will post updates of what I am seeing and where and should I get lucky and snag my prize, I'll gloat all over the freaking place. Of course, you the curious and generous reader are MORE than welcome to help a brother out and offer to sell me the game I seek at the price I seek and thus end the quest rather quickly. I will praise you highly in my gloat. The quest begins tomorrow, methinks.
Finally an update on the Stan Report (what's happening in the life of Stan for those of your scoring at home)
Playing:
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64), Sonic Spinball (Genesis), Sonic Shuffle (Dreamcast), AD&D: Dragonstrike (NES), Beatles Rock Band (Wii)
Reading:
Bismark and the German Empire (Eyck), True to Our Feelings (Solomon), Ultimate Spider-man, Amazing Spider-man, Daredevil, Batman
Watching:
Big Bang Theory, Monday Night Football, Hell's Kitchen
Last Movie:
The Broadway Melody (1929)
Listening To:
Changes (Bowie), 1984 (Van Halen), Sports (Heuy Lewis) all on vinyl
Pondering:
Getting published in some Emotion Research journals, what topics, how to format, etc. What constitutes a basic emotion? What are the criteria for defining a theory of emotion.

FINALLY! You are MINE!
Posted 6 Sep 2009
For like two years I have searched and searched for a copy of Castlevania Legacy of Darkness (N64). While I found a few they were over-priced for my "willing to pay" amount. But today I finally broke down and shelled out $20 for it at a local second hand. The only reason they got the $20 was because the dude said they are tearing down the shopping center his store is in and he no longer has the time or energy to try to start again from scratch. So I figured $20 was a little high, but this was the only copy I had seen in 2 years, so I had better snag it and support the dude before he lost his store. So now, it is MINE!
Also picked up today:
NES
Circus Caper
Conquest of the Crystal Palace
Starship Hector
Thunder and Lightning
Trojan
SNES
Utopia
Genesis
Sonic Spinball
Jurassic Park Rampage Edition
Family Feud
Aladdin (just the case, I needed)
Not a bad haul and all for about $40 total (including Castlevania!)
Woo hoo!
Also, whatever grease they use to make the McDonalds hash brown simply must come from outer space. I ate one the other morning and a layer of that substance coated the inside of my mouth for like two hours. I drank like 2 gallons of water trying to wash it away (was at work, so no mouthwash available). Needless to say, no more of those nasty grease piles.
Update to the Stan Report:
Currently playing:
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64), Castlevania Legacy of Darkness (N64), Asteroids (GBC), Thrust + (VCS), Starship Hector (NES)
Currently reading:
True to Our Feelings (Robert Solomon), Man and Superman (Shaw), Ultimate Spider-man
Last movie: Coma (first screen appearance of Mr. Tom Selleck)
Listening To: Tragic Kingdom (No Doubt), Damn the Torpedoes (Tom Petty), Mellow Gold (Beck)
Pondering: Emotions as natural kinds. Free will. Parents with screaming children who don't have to consider those around them and what other things you can get away with as a parent with a screaming child (murder maybe? "I had to kill that man, my child was screaming and you know when a 2 year old screams there is nothing you can do about it.")

Pot Calls the Kettle Fascist
Posted 25 Aug 2009
Yes, that is correct, my friends, today on his radical right wing propaganda bonanza, Rush Limbaugh openly and loudly accused President Obama of being a fascist with a hidden agenda and desire to destroy the USA from the inside. Ha! Laugh with me! Are you kidding me? Rush Limbaugh, a man who is the dancing monkey of the Capitalist regime, a man who is virtually an American Capitalist Joseph Goebbles, wants to throw fascism stones at Barrack Obama? I have no interest in defending Obama, or the farce that is the American Oligarchy regardless of which virtually indistinguishable political party "assumes" control of it. What I take offense to is Rush's radical .sensationalism and his agenda to stir up the conservatives, both extreme and moderate, that for whatever reason subscribe to his inane ramblings.
I'm not sure what Obama is doing that scares the living shit out of Rush and his Capitalist cronies, but he must be doing something right, because the bottom feeders of the Capitalist regime (like Rush) are chomping at the bit with fear that Obama is going to shake something up and ruin their chance at ascension into the ranks of the upper ranks.
Of course, the above rests on two faulty premises: 1. That the American system is still capable of bold effective moves that effect any kind of real change. and 2. That the upper middle class can ever ascend to the upper echelon of those that control the modes of production.
Anyway, I found it completely absurd that Rush Limbaugh wants to call someone else a fascist. What a ridiculous statement than only reveals his agenda and his ignorance.
Update on the Stan Report:
Now playing: Trauma Center (Wii)
This just in: The Ego Tunnel Thomas Metzinger, but I have so much to read...
Now watching: Hell's Kitchen (at least about to)
