In Topic: Powerpak, Harmony Cart: thoughts on these?

I have the Harmony and the Everdrive for the Genesis. I love both, and it makes it nice and easy to not having to dig out my game collection just to pick out a cartridge. I still have all my original games for both consoles, it just makes life easier. :)

The NES PowerPak is coming in the very near future.

Hi there!

Here's a thought I'd like to hear your opinions on, just some silly math based on heavy guessing of mine...

=========

Assuming a good game sells 2 Million copies, 1 million of which get sold used.

Now the standard bigger, better, more sequel comes out, that is bought by let's say 80% of people who liked the first.

That would be 2.4 Million copies

Now after killing the used game market

That would be only 1.6 Million copies

=========

Maybe I'm missing something essential here, but how will companies manage to ever grow a franchise once they limit their target audience for a sequel to just the people that bought the first game? As I see it they'd be just cutting their own flesh in the long run...

Greetings,
Manuel

They feel that if they only sell the games new, people would HAVE to buy it new, therefore they get a share of every single game being sold. They're getting greedy, and its going to be the final straw to cause the next video game crash.

I don't think this one has as many games that can be nerfed by using an 8-way. Qix is the only one I can see where it might be a serious problem for purists. Then there are the games on the unit that require an 8-way, like the Legend of Kage. I'd hate to play that one with a 4-way--It would be like trying to play Xevious from the Pac-Man model a few years back with no diagonals, haha!

I agree completely. There are much more 8 way games than 4 way games on the device. Its just that the game I'd want to play the most... just so happens to be 4 way. :) Which is why I said about I wouldn't get it unless its cheap being its going to be modified anyways.

8 way stick? That's kind of a turn off for me. The only reason why I would get this now is to add it to a mini arcade machine I want to build, using the Atari 2600 dual paddle Jakk's Pacific and the Namco Museum 12 game version. It would be nicely built with the joystick in the center, with two paddle controllers on either side to give the two people plenty of room for Warlords. I'd also tap a paddle controller into the Namco stick for Pole Position. The Namco stick I have came with an 8 way (even though they're supposed to be 4 way), and it makes games like Pac-Man unplayable. I would mainly get it to play Qix, which is also a 4 way game. The arcade I planned on building would have a switchable stick for Bosconian and a few others, so this would work great for that.

TL;DR if I can find one in the store, I'll get one, but I won't be heartbroken if I can't find one.

I wasn't aware that such a beast exists.

It does. I used to have one. Unfortunately it quit working on me :(

It had the same crappy music quality as the NOACs unfortunately.
