It's really silly to boycott a entire company when they make products of so many different types and qualities. EA these days is just a publisher. They just publish games made either by companies they own (EA Sports) or they have a contract with. It's the same thing with Activision, Atari, Sega, Konami, or any other large company out there these days. Don't look at the company that PUBLISHED the game -- look at who actually MADE it, and what kind of game it is. EA like any other company has published both wonderfull and terrible games.

Do we continue to look at the developer when the publisher is the one that mandates the various internet connection requirements to play offline games if it's the unnecessary requirements added by the publisher that we're pissed about?

EA has recently gone the Ubisoft route with requiring internet connections for their single player games. It's cost them at least one PC game sale for Command & Conquer 4.

As far as the future of collecting, it sounds like the hot items of future auction sites will be consoles already loaded with download-only games. Very sad indeed.

Would it even be "that good"? The games are likely to be tied to a particular person in addition to a particular console. If the console makers choose, they can just forbid the exchanging of download-only titles between people "For the sake of the game developers" which would probably mean the games would be virtually useless to the new owner of the console, or risky at best if the original owner suddenly wanted his games back and re-registered them to his/her new console.

So the likely hot item would probably be a modded console, which by then they'll probably finish making illegal to own.

Well, I've already gone through the stacks of $5 and under games at the ebgames around me so I've probably plucked out what little was worth $5 out of those bins. I suppose it wouldn't hurt for me to go back one more time and see if there's anything worth taking pity on. :ponder:

They're going to have a much harder time selling those games after they get rid of the packaging however. I know there are games that I occationally pick out of their bargain bins but I only do so when they have the packaging.

I suppose they have to try to justify their selling used games for near retail prices somehow, and I guess "quality" is one such way to do it. :P

Yeah, I might be hurting myself by missing some excellent gaming, but I dislike being milked like a cow.

If you have plenty of games to enjoy on your plate already, you are never 'hurting' yourself by boycotting some company's future products. I tend to compare people saying "man you're only hurting yourself by not playing XXX" or listening to AAA, or watching ZZZ, etc as nothing more than a form of peer pressure.

Unless you're stabbing your eyes out because you can't play game XXX, you're not hurting yourself. Considering some of the games I've played in part due to people going "oh you just gotta play it! it's the best!" have made me want to gouge out my eyes... hmm.
