Best NES Clone?

Mon Feb 6, 2012 9:28 AM

Lately I've been getting a little frustrated with the tight fit of my NES's replaced 72-pin, and that a lot of carts still don't work reliably. I'm considering picking up a NES clone like the Generation NEX. I'm not too concerned with perfect emulation, I'll still have my original NES, I just want the games to work more reliably and not be such a pain to get in and out of the unit. I'd also like to keep using my NES controllers (particularly the NES Advantage, which is one of my favorite joysticks ever). Any recommendations?

Why I play more Atari 2600 than Xbox 360

Fri Sep 16, 2011 10:15 AM

I popped a game into my Xbox 360 for the first time in ages last night. It's probably been a year and a half since I've used my 360 for anything but DVDs. Anyways, I put the disc in:

Oops, need to download the patch…
Okay, booted up again.
Oops, the email I registered w/ publisher is old and out of date. Enter new email & password.
Okay, that’s done. I hate the keyboard popups.
Okay, let’s get the game going...
Oops, need to enter my 16-digit "Online Pass Code."
Okay, now I'm at the main menu...
Wow, the menu music is awful, let me go to the settings and disable 70% of the tunes...
Saving profile... waiting... saving profile... waiting...
Okay, now I’m ready to start playing a game!

Uh oh, my kid is finished with his bath. I have to go…

Startup Gallery in Albuquerque

I was just out west of a couple weeks, and got a chance to visit the Startup Gallery in the Albuquerque Museum of Science & Natural History. It was awesome - all the cool stuff from the book "Hackers" was there for you to touch or examine up close.

Here's the whole gallery of pics: http://imageshack.us.../hpim1693n.jpg/

Here's me "programming" an Altair. It was so cool to be able to flip the switches yourself:

I got a chance to play an original version of "Spacewar" (although in hindsight, I'm not sure if it was actually running on the PDP or an emulator).

And here's the source for "Spacewar":
