Real Heroes: Firefighter- what a cool surprise!

Sat Apr 14, 2012 6:15 PM

I have been delving into the Wii back catalog as of late, and stumbled across this game. It was published by Conspiracy (makers of some of the worst games on the system) but don't hold that against it: this game is great. A first person fire fighting game (like a nonviolent shooter), it is one of the more original games I've come across in a while. The gameplay is nice, music is okay, the graphics work well (and at times, are pretty good- not great, but good, except for the water effects), and I was surprised by the amount of variety they crammed into here. At times, it was genuinely funny- you could tell the team had a lot of fun making this. I was hooked from the first level, which was a great set piece. A unique game, which takes old elements and re imagines them in entirely new ways (which was kind of the point of the Wii in the first place, I guess). I had never heard of this before grabbing it for cheap off of Amazon, and if you are a fan of shooters or adventure games, totally worth checking out. I just felt I should share with others, because I think this one was rather overlooked. Anyone else out there try this? I'd love to know your thoughts.

Fishing Resort!? Where have you been all my life?

Wed Feb 1, 2012 6:36 AM

got this game on our Mail Call shipment two weeks ago and man- so good. I have to say (as a fan of fishing games) this might be the best one I have ever played. The graphics are a mix of wii sports resort cuteness and realistic environments. The gameplay, though, is awesome. Very deep (tons of places to go/fishes to catch/things to do) and the motion controls work very well. One of those games, like Godfather Blackhand, Skyward Sword, and Wii Sports Resort where the motion really adds to the game. And it costs me 20$. I am in love. If anyone is looking for a mellow, but well done, game to play during the last days of the Wii, I would strongly recommend picking this one up. I have spent all day at school (when not teaching kids of course) pondering what set of lures I was gonna buy when I got home.

Anyone have a Flashback 2 they wanna sell me?

I have been in the DRC for five months now and want to play some pitfall, and figured the Flashback 2 was the best choice. Anyone have a unit they wanna sell? I can pay through paypal and have a US shipping address, oddly enough. Please get in touch, as I miss rocking Yars Revenge.

The Wii is the best 2d system of the last 3 generations. Discuss . . .

Hey all,
Been sitting in the Congo going back through the wii games I picked up and haven't really played- I realized that I have more 2d platformer type games now than I have had since I first owned a SNES. Crazy. Looking at the Wii's 2d library in my possesion, they have some incredible 2d games. I have an XBOX 360 but haven't seen as many high quality 2d games (admittedly though I don't do much on XBOX Live) in terms of 2d. Agree or disagree?
Here are the wii games I have that lead me to this conclusion- all of these kick ass:
Mirumasa (spelling!)
A Boy and His Blob
DKC Returns
Lost in Shadow
Wario Land: Shake it
Kirby's Epic Yarn
NSB

on wiiware:
Swords and Soldiers
Max and the Magic Marker
Lostwinds 1 and 2
That Kid Icarus/Metroid style game (name escapes me)

In addition, that new Rayman looks killer. Pretty weird that after 15 years of "2d is dead!" it seems to be going through a pretty righteous renaissance.
