Did Rainbow Arts (of turrican fame) do a coin op game

Tue Feb 7, 2012 8:41 AM

I remember reading (some years ago) a coin op games review section of a popular UK multi platform games magazine (can't remember which one)

And it was reviewing some arcade game (can't remember the name) by the german games publisher Rainbow Arts (of turrican and giana sisters fame)...it wasn't turrican, that much i know (since the coin op version was done by data east), the review itself was on the top part of the page, that is all i remember

Anyone know this game (or it's title) or any of rainbow art's coin op/arcade games

I do remember them mentioning that most of the game development was taking place on a pc (for this game)

Qk. Question about PAL and J/U NTSC games (on classic formats upto the DC)

Thu Jan 26, 2012 9:06 AM

The question being what percentage/ratio of PAL games on the classic formats (i.e sega/nintendo, sony and others) were also released on J/U NTSC formats and visa versa

And of the 2 formats, which format (i.e PAL or NTSC) had every game released on that system...or was/is that an impossibility (due to exclusivity contracts on say a pal version or NTSC version of a game)

And there was me thinking that Apple were the kingpin of Mobile gaming

I dunno why no one doesn't do a pacman or space invaders clone (since atari's rights to those games expired years ago, and i spoke to someone that once owned the home gaming rights to pacman...this back in 2000) and just leave the atari crap to wither away and die (preferably along with the company), I say space invaders because Atari can't sue anyone for that game (remember what happened when they tried suing commodore over the same game, all that happened is that commodore released the game under another name)

Ultimately Atari's present actions aren't going to do it any favours, they already lost the support of the classic/retro market (and thats' nothing to do with their actions against the emulators) and now they're going to lose mainstream support

Perhaps Atari needs a lession in basic business logic...i.e look after your customers...give them what they want....something that Atari hasn't done in donkey's years

issue with scrolling games on winfellow (amiga emulator) using nvidia chips

Thu Jan 19, 2012 8:49 AM

There is definately a problem with scrolling games on this emulator (if you use the emulator in windowed mode) using nvidia onboard or video cards

the scrolling is very coarse like it was emulating an ST/e game

The problem only corrects itself if you use fullscreen mode, yet if i use a system with an SiS mirage onboard or videocard there is no problem (with scrolling games in windowed mode, using this emulator)

Perhaps this emulator has an issue with nvidia chips or something

don't really like using winUAE, since it keeps loading in different parts of memory (i.e, it loads dynamically in memory each time you run the program)

Early commodore history (as a computer company)

Wed Jan 18, 2012 9:41 AM

I was reading a PDF version of a c-128 book 'the black book of the commodore 128' by Robert and Dell Taylor (Value Soft, publishers)

In the introduction chapter where they gave a condensed summary of commodore history (briefly mentioning the bit about commodore as a typewriter repair company and totally skipping the bit about commodore as a calcutor manufacturer)

Anyway when they eventually got to the summary of commodore history as a computer company, BEFORE they even mentioned the PET, it mentioned that commodore had been commissioned by Tandy/Radio Shack to design a computer system for them, after reviewing their (T/RS's) decision, they decided to design their own system (i.e the TRS 80) (didn't give a year of manfacture or what it was called)

It begs the question, what ever happened to this system that commodore designed for T/RS, did it morph into the PET, what was it going to be called, what did it look like, what processor were commodore going to use (since the TRS 80 came with a Z80 and commodore had just bought out the originator of the 6502), what type of system was it going to be (single board, like the Aim65/Kim1 etc or a proper system like the PET, Apple II etc) and lastly did commodore start designing this system before or after it purchased MOS

Anyone know ?
