Using a TEC for cooling...

Sun May 20, 2012 7:03 AM

Just wondering what the pitfalls and/or advantages would be, using
a 5v TEC (thermo-electric cooler) , with thermal adhesive/glue on
a CPU?

Would it be as efficient as a fan? Would there be condensation?

Thanks!

Dialing out with a Lantronix UDS10?

Tue May 15, 2012 7:41 AM

I know that there are several 8bitters who use the Lantronix devices to telnet out with.

I had a UDS10 at one time, before it died, and now I've got a UDS1100 that is used
with my BBS.

However, while I didn't have too much trouble setting them up for *incoming* calls,
I've never set one up for calling out.

So I was wondering if some of you that use them could post your settings for
dialling out.

Thanks! :)

Atari's Plato Cartridge question

Sun Apr 8, 2012 3:43 PM

Hey gang. I had a user pose this question in the 8bit message base on
my BBS:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was reading about an atari cartridge called "Atari's PLATO catridge" or
Atari Access Software for the PLATO Services Network for connecting to
cyber1. Is this cartridge available for use in an atari emulator, i.e.
Atari800MacX?
Thanks for any info.
Teddy

I've never used this cartridge and I don't use emulators so can anyone
provide some information?

Thanks! :)

PS I did find a link for info on it: http://www.atarimaga...latorising.html

Linus Torvalds & Atari ST Stops Microsoft Patent

Postby MrMaddog » Fri Mar 30, 2012 5:21 pm
Came across this on Slashdot... Torvalds testfied in a case where Microsoft is suing companies like Motorola for using long filenames in a FAT filesystem without paying them money (always those that use the Linux kernel). The proof which was ruled as prior art is a newsgroup posting about how to add long filename support in MultiTOS back in '92, VFAT didn't come out till '94. So yeah, I'm happy to see that the Atari platform had a hand in putting a dent in the Microsoft legal juggernaught

Disclaimer: The Wired article claims the original posting was by "an Amiga fan" even though it was from an Atari ST newsgroup. Natuerlich was on other Amiga newsgroups however so that might be true...

Power supply is out...

Mon Mar 26, 2012 11:36 PM

As far as I can tell, the power supply on the Mega ST4 that runs my BBS is out.

I'll order a new one from Best Electronics, but the BBS will probably be down for a few days...

Apologies!
