In Topic: 7800 HSC Game Poll Round 15

Pole Position. The most under-rated pack-in ever. It only takes flak because it was packed in against Super Mario Bros. I wouldn't want Super Mario Bros packed in with my competitors' console TODAY, let alone in the mid 80s. There are a handful of games better than SMB, and I only say that because I'm a Sega fan.

If people aren't too attached to the poll, one suggestion is to simply play each game, including the hombrews, in alphabetical order. Each game gets hit once and only once until the whole catalog of 7800's is exhausted
That's not a bad idea. But some games don't keep score like Title Match Pro Wrestling.
And i'm not sure some of us want to play Tomcat or F-18.
And for the most part i like to keep the same format the previous HSC Mod had.
In the Variety Pack we played this season, we played 4 games that weren't played before and 1 that wasn't played for at least 3 years.
Maybe in the next Variety Pack we'll play another batch of games that haven't been played yet or for a few years.

AHA! Proof! You ARE a mechanical man from the future and not a regualr human being. You have overplayed your hand cyborg. I move that all Mord's scores be striken from the record, as robots from the future are clearly not allowed in the HSC as per section 14C of the rulebook.

I think very early on Atari should have made Desert Falcon the pack in with the 7800. My theory is that they wanted a pack in that looked better than anything they could do with the 2600, that was fairly deep, and thayt used both buttons o9n the new controllers. I think Desert Falcon fits that bill as well as PP2 does. I think it has two big advantages though.
1) It is an Atari property. This means that if you have an Atari system you can have this game, but if you don't you can't. It's not the best game in the world, but it is an Atari only game.
2) It is marketable. The enemy Sphinx and the Falcon can each appear on the system's promotional material. They could be as tied to the 7800 (or at least Atari) as Mario and the NES. Again, it isn't important that it isn't as good as Super Mario (few things are), just that seeing an ad with the Royal Falcon and the Howling Sphinx would mean Atari to people.
I think they missed an oportunity by tying their system to a race car owned by Namco. Theres not a lot of personality to another company's car (even if Atari was tied to PP by distribution rights in the arcade or whatever). The Royal Falcon could still be fighting the Howling Sphinx in Atari games today.
