In Topic: Simple shumup(shhot-em-up) possible?

Fri Aug 26, 2011 2:43 PM

There aren't a lot of side-scrolling shooters on the 2600, for obvious technical reasons - though definitely check out Stargate/Defender II - but there are of course plenty of vertical shmups; including lots of great homebrews.

Best original shoot em ups:
Space Invaders
River Raid
River Raid II
Phoenix
Demon Attack
Stargate/Defender II
Galaxian
Defender
Spider Fighter
Vanguard
Chopper Command

My favorite simple homebrew shoot em ups:
Conquest of Mars
Space Instigators
Oystron
Seawolf

Try this for designing sprites/players: http://www.alienbill...yerpalnext.html

Kirk Isreal (the creator of that) also has a playfield editor and a bunch of other resources on this page: http://www.alienbill.com/2600/

I don't really remember all the details but... The code is for turning on and off the missles. The stack must be pointed at ENAM1 and it looks like I wanted it pointed back at ENAM1 again after I was done but I didn't want to destroy the value in the X register.
Ah, of course!

Thanks for the explanation. :)

EDIT: And that probably explains all the places that look something like this...

In Topic: do exclusive titles really matter that much?

Mon Mar 14, 2011 10:37 PM

Anymore it seems that the number of exclusives is shrinking to be pretty much only niche games (that aren't worth the money to port) and 1st-party titles.

But I think exclusives still matter - you can't play Halo on a PS3 and that's probably a pretty big deal to a lot of people. Same for Gran Turismo, Fable, Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted, God of War, Gears of War, etc.

And obviously, Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Metroid and the rest of Nintendo's big franchises.
