New TI-99/4A owner. Some questions I need answered.

Mon Feb 27, 2012 4:43 PM

So this past weekend I became the new owner of a TI-99/4A and a small collection of games, among other items (see here).

Among the games that I got, I have found that a number of them work only with the joysticks, while some work with the keyboard alone or with the joysticks as an option. I was under the impression that most (all?) TI-99/4A games used the keyboard in case the user did not have the joysticks present.

That could be the nostalgia talking as to be quite honest I know very little about the TI-99/4A. I've always wanted one because I remember playing a few games on the machine in my first grade year of elementary school, and then later for about a week when my brother borrowed one from someone at college to check it out.

Also if there's any other information that other fellow TI-99/4A owners might like to impart (other game suggestions that I should be on the lookout for, suggested websites to peruse, and modern methods for transferring files to and from a PC for the TI-99/4A), it would be greatly appreciated as well. I'd like to learn whatever I can about this neat little machine.

Skyward Sword Mario Cameo

I think I've stumbled across something here.

While playing around on the game, I ventured into the Lanayru Sand Sea area for the first time. After crossing the chasm over to where the dock is, I turned around to look back in the direction from where I came into the area (on the map, it's toward the east).

When I looked up at the tower that I came into the area from, I saw this...

So what do you folks think? Seeing what I am?

Flickering Screen. Looks like repair time for me.

Well, I've been dreading the day but it looks like fate, or at best time, has finally caught up to me and my poor launch-day Wii.

So I've been playing a great deal of Zelda: Skyward Sword since I got it (Christmas gift), and I'm loving it. But tonight offered me no joy. Fired up the system, booted the game, and I'm greeted with a sky full of clouds and little red, green, and blue dots flickering everywhere.

I've known that some of the launch Wiis have occasionally had an issue with their GPU slowly giving up the ghost, and it usually manifests itself in this fashion. So I guess that means giving Nintendo a ring and sending her off to get fixed, or else put out to pasture and having them send me a replacement.

So I thought I'd pop on here before I initiate that wonderful tech support call and see what others' experience has been if you've had to send a Wii off to the Big N for a quick tune-up.

Specifically, I've got a few Virtual Console and Wii Ware titles I've downloaded over time, as well as a few game saves that I cannot transfer (the games go online, and thus the ability to copy or move to an SD card has been disabled). So I'm hoping that if a replacement is necessary that Nintendo will be able to transfer all my stuff over to the replacement console for me so I won't have to worry with all that stuff once it comes back. Can anyone confirm they will do this before I call, just so I'll know what to expect?

Prince of Persia ported to C64!

Mon Oct 17, 2011 6:19 PM

So it seems good ol' Prince of Persia has been ported from its happy Apple ][ home to the Commodore 64. There was a writeup in Joystiq about it today.

I've downloaded the game and checked it out in VICE. To play on a real C64 you need an EasyFlash cartridge (or 100% compatible), which I unfortunately do not have. But it looks like a very solid port. Even Jordan Mechner commented on the port, expressing admiration on the developer's blog about the port.
