Finally Got Around to Making One of These...

I finally got around to making one of these. The cord is from a MadCatz Genesis controller which has a nice length -- longer than the stock Sega controllers and way longer than the stock 7800 controllers. I had planned to just remove the old Select and Start buttons, but decided to make them 7800 buttons 1 and 2 instead. Now I just have to decide on a label design. I'm thinking of simply all black with the buttons labeled and a rainbow stripe at the top with an Atari logo somewhere near the center.

Harmony Menu Issue

Tue May 15, 2012 6:13 PM

I don't remember when I purchased my Harmony cart, but I doubt it's one of the early productions with bootup issues... I don't know. Mine frequently has an issue where the menu will page through really fast after booting up. It's been doing this for months now. Pressing the button on my controller and then up or down on the joystick is the only way to make it behave once this starts. Using the joystick before pressing the button will cause it to get stuck.

This happens on all my Atari systems, the 4-switches, 6-switches, Heavy Sixer, 2 Jrs, and my 7800, regardless of what controller I use. So it's definitely a Harmony issue and not a console or controller issue. Has anyone else experienced this?

7800 issues with Harmony and others

Sat May 12, 2012 7:35 PM

One of my 7800s does not work with paddle controllers, and the other does not work with the Harmony cart. The one that does not work with the Harmony is an older model with the expansion port on board. I've read about modifying certain 7800s to make them more compatible with certain games like Robot Tank, but I don't know if that would help with the problem I'm having.

What might be causing it to not work with the Harmony? It will usually boot up, then start to either roll & crash or just crash. Sometimes it won't boot the Harmony at all, other times I'm able to load a game before it crashes. Would replacing capacitors help, or changing/removing certain components or resistors as with the compatibility mod?

Also, has anyone else heard of certain 7800s not working with paddles, and if so, is there a fix for this?

Hack Request: Fatal Run Trained

It would be great if someone could hack this game to make you invincible or have unlimited everything.

Also, does anyone have any "good" playing tips? I have the manual, but its tips seem to either be inaccurate or unhelpful.

An Attractive Menu

Fri Mar 16, 2012 12:35 AM

I intended to post about this a long time ago, but never got around to it. Since the Harmony Cart sorts files/directories according to when they were created on the SD card, you can do some interesting sorts.

To make the menu more attractive for my tastes, I created blank text documents and named them with all hyphens to separate certain groups of folders. I'm sure most ppl will not care for my folder choices, but some may like the idea of using blank files to decorate the menu.

Here's what my menu looks like:
[Commercial]
[Cassettes]
------------------------
[Homebrew]
[Hacks]
[Prototypes]
[NTSC Conversions]
[Flashback 2]
------------------------
[Paddles]
[Driving Controller]
[Light Gun]
[2-Button Hacks]
------------------------
[Special Releases]
[Trainers]
[Demos]
[Brazilian]
[Supercharger Compatib..]
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
[[[ Harmony Software ]]]
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So the lines of hyphens and "x"s are the 0-byte files. You could also add them to your ROM folders so that you have separations between letter groups like this:

0 ]---------------------
3-D Tic-Tac-Toe.bin
A ]---------------------
Acid Drop.bin
Adventure.bin
Adventures of Tron.bin
Air Raid.bin
B ]---------------------
Bank Heist.bin
Barnstorming.bin
Basic Math.bin
BASIC Programming.bin
Basketball.bin
Battlezone.bin
C ]---------------------
Cakewalk.bin
California Games.bin
Carnival.bin
Centipede.bin
Challenge of Nexar.bin

...and so on

What ideas have others had for sorting their directories/files and decorating their menu?
