Atari 2600 programmer Manuel Rotschkar (Gunfight, Star Fire) has completed his latest Atari 2600 title, Seawolf, which will be his 4K entry in the 2004 MiniGame Competition. This game is influenced and inspired by the Midway Sea Wolf and Sea Wolf II arcade games as well as the Astrocade and 8-bit home versions, but is not a direct port. Seawolf also borrows elements from Broderbund's Seafox.

In Seawolf you command a submarine lurking below the surface of the ocean, where you need to attack enemy convoys while avoiding depth charges and other dangers. But use your resources wisely, as you don't want to be a sitting duck when you run out of torpedoes, or worse, fuel! And watch out for the Red Cross ships, as they have a surprise for you if you accidently target them!

Seawolf comes in a translucent blue cartridge to match the game's water theme, and keyed to the original label created by Dave Exton. Dave also created a stunning, full-color eight page manual to accompany the game. You can pre-order Seawolf from the AtariAge Store, and it will be shipped to you after the show.

Beef Drop

Pre-Order Now!

AtariAge user Ken "kenfused" Siders has ported the popular arcade game Burgertime to the Atari 5200, giving it the name Beef Drop. Burgertime was ported to many home game consoles and computer systems, including the Intellivision, ColecoVision, Atari 2600, Nintendo Entertainment System, but it never found a home on the Atari 5200 until now. While a disk-based version of Burgertime was released for the Atari 8-bit computers, this version has been written from scratch to be more faithful to the arcade version than the older 8-bit port.

This new version of Burgertime began life as an April Fool's joke in our Atari 5200 Forum and quickly turned into a real homebrew development effort! You can view a large selections of Beef Drop screenshots here, as well as download a demo of the game that you can try in your favorite Atari 5200 Emulator. For all you wanted to know about Burgertime and more, please visit burgertime.info.

We held a Beef Drop Label Contest to design an original label for Beef Drop, and you can see Henry Lee's winning design to the left. Henry's artwork is featured on both the label and manual. You can pre-order Beef Drop from the AtariAge Store, and it will be shipped to you after the show.

Reversi

Pre-Order Now!

Reversi is based on the classic board game where your objective is to capture the most pieces on the game board by flipping discs to your color. A disc, or an unbroken line of discs of the same color, is captured when it becomes flanked on opposite ends by two opposing pieces, one of which must be the disc that was just placed on the board. The player with the most discs at the end of the game is the winner! A tie can also result if both players have the same number of discs at the end. Now you can enjoy this masterpiece of strategic combat on your ColecoVision game console, thanks to ColecoVision programmer Daniel Bienvenue.

Diamond DashAlso included as an added bonus is Daniel Bienvenu's 2004 MiniGame Competition entry, Diamond Dash (pictured to the right). Dig through five mountains with a limited supply of dynamite and collect all the diamonds as fast as you can! Do you have the skill to make it through all five mountains?

You can pre-order Reversi from the AtariAge Store, and it will be shipped to you after the show.

Homestar Runner RPG

Paul Slocum's (Marble Craze, Synthcart) latest project is a new Atari 2600 RPG (Role Playing Game) based on the characters from Homestar Runner, as well as some of your other favorite Atari 2600 characters. This will be the first in-depth RPG on the Atari 2600, and will be comparable to early computer based RPGs. But the absurd scenarios and dumb fairy-tale characters will be replaced with true-to-life stories and much more believable characters from the popular Homestar Runner crew. Mike and Matt Chapman (creators of Homestar Runner) are contributing story, graphics, and creative ideas to the game.

  • Play as Homestar, Poopsmith, or Strongsad
  • Large world, comparable in size to early Ultima/SSI releases
  • Ability to save your place in the game with a code system
  • Large amount of in-game story text
  • Turn-based gameplay
  • Magic, weapons, HP, all the goods.
  • Fight enemies from other Atari 2600 games
  • Mini-games

Fall Down

Fall Down pits the ever-opposed forces of RED and BLUE* against each other in an ultimate battle to capture scrolling platforms!

The first player to fall past a platform captures it and scores a point. Taking time to collect power-ups can give some advantage, but taking too long only results in death at the top of the screen. Watch out, because the platforms slowly accelerate...

Fall Down includes both two-player and single-player modes against a highly effective AI.

*BLUE couldn't make it for the PAL version, but his side-kick BLUEISH GREEN was more than ready to take up the fight!

Reflex

Reflex is a new game currently in development for the Atari 2600 by Lee Fastenau. It delivers breakout-style action with progressively difficult levels of play. Unlike other breakout-style games, however, you control two paddles that move around the bricks opposite each other. Reflex offers three modes of play: one-player, competitive two-player, and cooperative two-player.

Planned or implemented features of Reflex include unique board patterns for each level, level selection, paddle "English," NTSC/PAL50/PAL60 support (separate SECAM version available), convenient video mode select during power-on, joystick and driving controller support, and difficulty switch support for upping the challenge.

Fade Out

Fade Out is an original game being developed by Christopher Tumber (Space Instigators) and GBA artist Adam Tierney. You play one of two assassins, hunting each other down in an abandoned factory. What makes gameplay unique is that the factory is alive with moving platforms, and the assassins are the same two colors as their background. Because of this, players are free to move about each level in the 'shadows', hidden from their enemy. Options include difficulty settings, color selection and handicaps in player speed, energy and weapon strength. The game is currently 2-player only, although single-player options are planned.

Adventure II is the much-anticipated, unofficial sequel to Atari's classic Adventure on the 2600. As the game is being written for the Atari 5200, it will be larger and more detailed than the original, while still remaining faithful to the traits that made the classic Adventure memorable even after 25 years. AtariAge will have a new demo of Adventure II at the Oklahoma Gaming Expo, so visitors to the show will have the privilege of being the first to see the game's latest progress!

You can learn more about Adventure II by visiting Ron Lloyd's Adventure II Development Page. Ron has created a new demo for the Oklahoma Gaming Expo,
