Feelin' Blu

Well, the myriad editions of Tron: Legacy are now up for pre-order on Amazon (due to ship April 5th -

;) ).

The question is... what to get?

The Tron: Legacy Limited Edition Five-Disc Combo Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy + Tron: The Original Classic Special Edition Blu-ray in super-special "Identity Disc" collectible packaging?

The Tron: Legacy Five-Disc Combo Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy + Tron: The Original Classic Special Edition Blu-ray?

The Tron: Legacy Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy?

The Tron: Legacy Two-Disc BD Blu-ray/DVD Combo?

Or just the pedestrian Tron: Legacy DVD?

Nnnnaahh. Not the DVD-only one. What am I gonna do with that... watch it on a Mac?

'Cuz you know... you can't watch Blu-ray on Macs.

Stupid Apple.

I don't even want the Blu-ray 3D disc. I don't own a Blu-ray 3D player, or a 3D-compatible HDTV, nor do I want either one of those.

I could just get one of the two or four-disc sets without the Blu-ray 3D disc, then buy:

Tron: The Original Classic Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo

Although I question whether that's even a valid pre-order listing, since the cover artwork is so dog-ugly, it looks like bad five-minute-Photoshop-fan-art.

But if I went that route, I wouldn't get a digital copy of Tron: Legacy. And it doesn't look like I can get a digital copy of Tron anywhere.

Not that I've ever used any of the digital copies of films I've already bought. :ponder:

And what's this "Special Edition" stuff I keep reading about the original Tron? That's worrisome. DON'T TOUCH THE MOVIE. Remaster it? Sure. Clean up the image? Sure. Color-correct it? Sure. But "Special Edition" it? I don't like the sound of that. Not one bit.

Get it? Bit?

"No."

Phooey. You're no fun.

Anyway... while we're waiting for the Blu-ray release to roll out, here's a leaked version of the original, unused intro to Tron: Legacy.

Enjoy. ;)

(Sorry about that. I myself was a victim of that particular internet meme. But to make up for it, there are some very cool Tron-related interviews you can read at Den of Geek. Seriously. Check 'em out.)

Yep here as well - it'll go great next to my Blade Runner Briefcase :D

I have to say that I haven't used the extra DVD or digital copy of any Blu-Ray/DVD I have. I'm more likely to use the DVD copy of a Blu-Ray. I'm tech-savvy enough to rip the DVD if I have that desire.

I'd earlier posted a video of one of the builders test riding it. Or trying to. He looked like a little kid trying to stay up on a bicycle for the first time. :D

I admire the attempt though.

Happened by Best Buy this evening. The front windows of the building are covered with a giant ad for Tron Legacy, and there are cardboard displays throughout the store.

The Tron (original) Blu-Ray discs were sold out, and only a couple of the DVDs remained. None of the two-movie sets were left either, but there were still a lot of the two-disc and four-disc combo packs for Tron Legacy.

I didn't buy any of them. I'm still waffling between getting the five-disc two-movie set (non-collector's edition), or just the two Blu-Ray+DVD movies separately (which is cheaper, and I couldn't care less about the 3D version). But the lenticular cover of the five-disc set is appealing. Because, of course, I'll look at that so often when it's sitting spine-side-out on my shelf.

I won't be getting the plastic-identity-disc version. The disc itself is only marginally larger than a DVD, and all reviews so far point out that the discs are stacked (which I hate) and hard to remove (which I hate even more). If I'm going to get a Tron disc thing, I'll just buy the toy. :P

An interesting thing to note - in the DVD/Blu-Ray sections they were selling a Flynn's Arcade t-shirt (w/glow-in-the-dark-logo) that was shrink-wrapped to the size and shape of a DVD case. I didn't get one. One size does not fit all.

And the winner is...

The two-disc Blu-Ray+DVD Tron: Legacy combo, plus the two-disc Blu-Ray+DVD Tron: The Original Classic combo.

$31.98 total. Way cheaper than any two-movie combo, plus I get the DVD of the original Tron (which you can't get in any of the two-movie combos), and I don't get stuck with a stupid 3D Blu-Ray disc I'll never use.

The downside? Well, I don't get a digital copy of Tron: Legacy. Big whoop. I've yet to use any of the digital copies of movies I already own, and I can always rip the DVD if I want to watch the movie on my iPhone (which frankly, I don't). Maybe... maybe if I owned an iPad and did a lot of traveling with it, I'd feel different. But I don't, I don't, and so I don't. So there.

(Besides, if I was desperate enough, there's always iTunes for that.)

As a weird aside... the recent forum upgrade (besides wreaking formatting havoc in my blog entries and comments), has also apparently taken it upon itself to change my Amazon links.

To wit - the links to those two items in the main entry used to read:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004K4IZ3G/

and...

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004KPLVW2/

...respectively (I always strip out non-essential info from Amazon links).

But now, they read:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004K4IZ3G?ie=UTF8&tag=atariage&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004K4IZ3G

and...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004KPLVW2?ie=UTF8&tag=atariage&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004KPLVW2

I don't know what's going on here... but I don't like it. Not one bit.
