Atari 8-bit McDonalds Prototypes Discovered

Curt Vendel of the Atari Museum has come through again with prototypes for an Atari-related McDonalds game, but this time it's an Atari 8-bit computer version of the game instead of the 2600 version previously discovered. The two unearthed 8-bit prototypes represent two different versions of the game, one being more complete than the other. Unlike the 2600 version of McDonalds, the 8-bit version is far more complete and actually playable. You can download the binaries to use in your favorite Atari 8-bit emulator, view the screenshots we've posted below, as well as a picture of the actual prototype cartridges. Enjoy!

Download

You can download the binaries below. Note that the games must be played with either OSA or OSB (Atari 800 Mode) OS images loaded, the games freeze up with the XL/XE OS.

MACWIP2.BIN - Early Version, no sound
MAC1-400.BIN - Later Release, with sound, better graphics & gameplay

The opening title screen is the same in both versions. Version two has the following notable differences:

  • Gameplay has a goal of 16 aliens to feed to win round
  • Spaceship is now shaped like Ronald McDonald
  • Flying Saucer Passes overhead every once and a while
  • Hamburgler will come down from the top of the screen to steal hamburgers randomly
