 AtariAge user Mindfield recently uncovered a fantastic video on Youtube that chronicles the development of the Imagic 2600 game Atlantis. Back in the heyday of the 2600, the PBS business show Enterprise (hosed by veteran CBS correspondant Eric Sevareid) followed the development of Atlantis throughout the year 1982. You get to follow Atlantis' lifespan including design, prototyping, playtesting, manufacturing, as well as it\s CES debut. If you ever wanted to see the inner workings of the video game industry in the early 80's, then you need to watch this video!  The Texas Pinball Festival is Texas' biggest pinball/gameroom show, featuring over 10,000 square feet of pure gameroom fun, all weekend long! This year's show takes place March 23-25, 2007 at the Hilton DFW Lakes Executive Conference Center in Grapevine, Texas. You can expect over 100 pinball machines, classic video games, and other gameroom goodies set for free play for everyone to enjoy the entire weekend! The Texas Pinball Festival also features many vendors and collectors from the area bringing parts, supplies, gameroom memorabilia, pinball machines, slot machines, jukeboxes and classic video games for sale. Other highlights of the show include Several tournaments so you can show your pinball prowess, informative seminars, and a coin-op swap meet.  A new version of the Atari 2600 Stella Emulator is now available. Version 2.3.5 of Stella contains several new features and an assortment of bug fixes (you can view the changelog here). If you're running the previous version, we suggest you upgrade so you can take advantage of the new features and improvements.  After a long hiatus, a new version of the Atari Lynx emulator Handy has been released! Improvements over the last public version include:- Interrupt system re-written to make it edge triggered, see Shadow of the beast to see the improvement, also fixes lockups in a number of other games (Loopz/Championship Rally/Fidelity Chess)
- Command line filename input supported: handy.exe
- Pressing ESC will now exit if you started with command line as above
- For all you folks using front-ends, you can now start directly into full-screen mode, the last used mode will be remembered exactly, so setup your desired mode, ALT-F4 to exit, then use your command line
- When in command line mode, all screen switching is disabled
- Bug fix to ram.cpp & cart.cpp

 After 18 months of development, Fred Quimby has announced the official release of batari Basic! Aside from enhanced stability and flexibility, this release introduces many new features that should help programmers write better games. batari Basic (bB) is a BASIC-like language for creating Atari 2600 games. It is a compiled language and the compiler runs on a computer, but it creates a binary file that can be run on an Atari 2600 emulator or used to make a cartridge that will operate on a real Atari 2600. This latest version of Stella contains a fair number of improvements and bug fixes, including improvements in TIA emulation as well as speedups.  After deliberating over all the wonderful entries submitted to the Medieval Mayhem Label Contest, author Darrell Spice Jr. has selected an entry from David Vazquez as the winning label. David Vazquez's second submission, pictured to the right, will be the artwork that graces the Medieval Mayhem label as well as the manual.  We're back from this year's Philly VGXPO where we released a new homebrew for the Atari 2600: Four-Play. Written by Zach Matley, Four-Play is a classic board game that has finally made its way to the Atari 2600. Four-Play has easy to learn rules, but don't expect to become a master as easily! Red and Blue take turns dropping marbles into an upright board. The first player to align four marbles horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins! Pit your wits against the computer A.I. at four difficulty levels, or play against a friend in two-player mode.
Another new addition to the store is ABC To The VCS, the ultimate summary guide to the Atari 2600. Originally written in 1983 during the height of the 2600's popularity, the first edition of this book was finally released in 1996 thanks to an overwhelming demand from collectors. Now, nearly a decade later, the 2600 is still popular among collectors and programmers alike. Unreleased games from the eighties are constantly being discovered and released and new 'homebrew' games are still being written for this system that ceased production in 1991. In all there are 163 more titles in the 2nd edition than were in the 1st edition.
And finally, we've put together several bundles of Atari 2600 homebrew games, and for a limited time they are anywhere from 14% through 50% off!  We've obtained exclusive video of two new Jaguar games in development: Project Apocalypse and Seaplane. While we don't know much about these titles at this time, we expect that information will soon be revealed about them. Both games were demonstrated at the recent Retro Gaming Connexion in France. These titles are being developed by Orion and Mk, who previously released the game Diam Jag for free. We've uploaded the videos to our server and you can view (or save them) by following these links:In other Jaguar news, Matthias Domin has released a new Jaguar CD homebrew game titled Double Feature #1. Included are two games, ConnectTHEM and Reversi, on a fully encrypted Jaguar CD that will run on any stock Jaguar CD player. You can learn more by visiting the Double Feature website.
Lars Hannig of Starcat Developments has released a new Jaguar CD game titled, Lost Treasures. Lost Treasures features 30 work-in-progress versions of various announced and unannounced Starcat Developments projects spanning a seven year period. Sadly these projects were lost in a system crash in 2005, but now you have the opportunity to sample them in their last known state. Also included is a demo of the upcoming graphics adventure Eerievale. Please visit Starcat Developments to learn more about Lost Treasures and other Starcat projects.
And finally, we've been told that the game Another World (also known as "Out of this World"), a popular action-adventure game that originally saw release on the Amiga, Atari ST and PC platforms in 1991, is now being brought to the Atari Jaguar. The Jagware team has obtained permission from the game's original designer, Eric Chahi, to port the game to the Jaguar and we look forward to learning more as development progresses!

 If you haven't yet submitted an entry for the Medieval Mayhem Label Contest, you only have a few days to do so! AtariAge and Darrell Spice Jr. are sponsoring a contest to create original artwork for the new Atari 2600 homebrew game Medieval Mayhem. This label artwork will appear on all copies of Medieval Mayhem, which will be available through the AtariAge Store. This artwork will also be featured on the cover of the manual created for Medieval Mayhem. The winner of the contest will receive a copy of Medieval Mayhem in cartridge form, featuring their winning label design. The winner will also receive a $50 gift certificate for the AtariAge Store. The contest will run until 11:59pm (CST), Sunday, November 12th, 2006.  The Houston Area Arcade Group (HAAG) is holding their 5th Annual Arcade Expo on December 1st and 2nd at the Houston Northwest Inn. Admission is $25 for a weekend pass or $15 for a single day, which gets you access to over 70 arcade games and pinball machines all set to free play! You can also participate in arcade and pinball tournaments, win door prizes, try your luck at a game raffle, and partake in the full bar. There aren't many opportunities to enjoy large collections of classic arcade games, so if you are in the Houston area (or can get there!), you should be at this expo!
