 If you haven't been checking the PhillyClassic 4 Homepage recently, you may have missed several updates!  Chad Schell, creator of the popular and versatile (but unfortunately Sold Out) Cuttle Cart for the Atari 2600, is hard at work on his latest creation: The 7800 Cuttle Cart. This new Cuttle Cart (not its official name) will have a number of improvements over the existing 2600 version, including an MMC card slot that will allow you to load 2600 and 7800 games from an on-screen menu!  Glenn Bussell has created an Atari 2600 Hangman Editor that allows you to create your own custom Hangman ROM that you can then run through an Atari 2600 emulator or on a real 2600.  Atari Jaguar fans can rejoice in the first public release of another Jaguar emulator, Virtual Jaguar. Keep in mind that this is a work in progress and the released version is not optimized, has sound disabled and no CD-ROM support. But development progress has been swift with Virtual Jaguar, so we expect rapid improvements. You can download the Virtual Jaguar emulator at Potato Emulation.

 Version 0.50 of the Project Tempest Atari Jaguar emulator has been released. This latest version brings the following improvements:

 Thanks go out to CPUWIZ, who sent us the binary to Pete's Test Cartridge, a diagnostic utility cartridge for the Atari 5200. This cart contains several diagnostic screens for diagnosing video and controller problems, and is useful for calibrating 5200 controllers. Only one of these carts is known to exist, and until now the binary hasn't been available out in the wild. You can download the binary and view screenshots here.

In this postmortem, Joe Grand goes into great detail about the development process of SCSIcide, including detailed analysis of what went right and what went wrong.  Sean of Sean's Hardware Hacks has built his own Atari 2600 portable, dubbed the Atari-X, inspired by Ben Heckendorn's VCSp. Sean's project demonstrates what someone can put together without access to a million dollar industrial computerized router, and features two joystick ports, two difficulty switches, thumbpad, paddle, A/V output, metallic paint job and a 3" LCD display.  NWCGE organizers have announced details for the upcoming 6th Annual Atari 2600 Championship to take place Sunday, March 16th in Seattle, Washington.  Atari 5200 programmer Ron Lloyd has allowed us to release the binary to his enjoyable and well-received game Koffi: Yellow Kopter. Initially released in a limited run of 100 copies, you can now enjoy Koffi in your favorite 5200 emulator. In addition, AtariAge is now making available the unlimited run of Koffi carts, complete with the colorful, sixteen page manual that accompanied the original release.  EmuTOS version 0.6 has been released. EmuTOS is a GEMDOS compatible operating system designed from Digital Research's GEMDOS source code, which was made under GPL license in 1999. It is intended as a free, open-source replacement for the TOS images used for Atari ST emulators, and can even be run on real ST hardware. Please visit the EmuTOS Home Page for more information.

 In a tribute to Midway Games West (formerly Atari Games) closing their doors on February 7th, GameSpy has posted a list of their Top Ten Atari Arcade Games. Atari Games was responsible for creating many unique and innovative arcade games, and this list only scratches the surface. The list includes well-known favorites such as Asteroids, Centipede and Tempest, as well as a few of Atari's more obscure titles such as I, Robot. Published in 1983 by Creative Computing Press, this hard-to-find book shows how to build your own controllers for Apple // and Atari 8-bit computers.  Atari 2600 programmer and musician Paul Slocum has released a 2600 Music Programming Guide as well as a new version of his 2600 Music Development Kit. The programming guide covers Paul's extensive knowledge about 2600 sound and music, and the music kit includes Paul's music driver, a player, an example song, and detailed instructions on the format of his music data.
