I Did That On Purpose
Here's my own strategy of choice -- the way I put the surprised expression on the Bomber's face upon reaching 10,000. Let your eyes dart up to your score every so often; try to notice when you're in the 900s (in whatever thousand you're on). If you have all three buckets, lose one. You'll start your next chance on the previous level, gaining that many more points at no additional difficulty -- and immediately getting your lost bucket back when you pass the next thousand mark.
