Jaguar Dactyl Joust Video Released
October 7, 2003
Posted by Albert Submit News | Archives

Dactyl JoustThanks go out to Carl Forhan of Songbird Productions and Eric Nofsinger of High Voltage Software, who together have made available a video clip of the unreleased Jaguar game Dactyl Joust. The idea behind Dactyl Joust was to take the classic arcade game Joust and turn it into a 3D match where you could fly about the arena where you would lance and fireball enemies. This video footage was taken from the actual game running on a real Jaguar, and looks like it would have been a fun game had it been completed. You can download the video here (you will need a DivX codec to play it), and discuss it with other Jaguar fans in our Atari Jaguar Forum.

Atari 2600 Dune Prototype Discovered!
October 3, 2003
Posted by Albert Submit News | Archives

DuneAnother long-lost prototype for the Atari 2600 has been discovered! This time it's Dune, an unreleased game based on the 1984 movie of the same name. It appears that Dune was to be an action/adventure style game similar to Atari's classic Adventure, but given as the game was never finished, we'll never know for sure exactly how it would have turned out. This prototype appears to be only about 30% complete--the game engine seems to be done, but many of the gameplay elements and graphics are missing. Many thanks to Curt Vendel of AtariMuseum.com for allowing us to share this binary with the public. You can download the binary here, read an indepth review of the prototype by Matt Reichert at AtariProtos.com, and discuss the game in our Atari 2600 Forum.
